Submission Want to extract *playable* fingerings from a MIDI file?

Then you may want to give fyngus a try! It's still under development and may not be up to every challenge just yet, but the more it gets used, the better it will ultimately be... It's free to use, and no registration is needed.

fyngus makes it a lot easier to play music without having to read 'proper' musical notation and figure out efficient fingerings and the resulting notation will always be in an appealing, easily readable format (tab and/or musical notation with fingerings), thanks to LilyPond.

The default choices made by fyngus are governed purely by efficiency considerations, like economy of movement and avoidance of difficult combinations of finger positions. However a number of options allow you to adapt them to your own technical, stylistic and musical preferences to any level of granularity.

Please have a look and let me know what you think. If you hit a bug, please let me know about it, but remember -- it's still improving, and your feedback may help a lot with that.

Thanks for reading this!

(I hope this doesn't violate any rules, and I apologize in advance in case I've overlooked any.)
