Hey guys,
A short story to precede the question.
A friend of mine recently let me burrow his 15 year old neglected Warwick Thumb 5 NT that he has not played in a very long time.
I get the instrument, it's in a cracked, falling apart case. I take the bass out, there's massive blemishes on the wood from aggressive playing. The action is so high I could just about stand on the strings and not reach the fingerboard. The strings themselves are ancient and have incredible amounts of gunk and crud on them. The nut was partially broken and sitting at a slightly weird angle and I later found out the Bass and Treble pots didn't work.
Albeit all of this, I plug the bass in, and with all the set backs I just mentioned I was absolutely BLOWN away by the instrument. Sure, it was difficult to play because of the action, but the tone was just - RICH. I could feel the quality of the bass oozing out of it even with all the blemishes. I just can't get over how good that bass sounds. The tone is out of this world.
So now I'm interested in Warwicks. Thing is they have SO many models, and aside from the Rockbass models I really don't see them too often.
Can the Warwick owners here please give me advice? What's the difference between the Corvette, Streamer, Thumb, Infinity, Starbass, Dolphin, Katana, Vampyre, Truimph etc.
Any input on your experience with the instrument will be appreciated!
Thank you very much!
