What’s a good Buyers Checklist for Amps and Cabinets

I’m currently negotiating a used SWR amp and 410 cabinet. I’ll pick it up soon and wanted to get your knowledge on what to look for and ask when picking up used equipment. I will be able to test it and play a little to make sure it works well. Things I know to be aware of: water damage, cracks and bumps, sound, make sure all the knobs turn smoothly and don’t introduce noice to the signal… thanks in advanced for your advice.

Smell is a good one on them fuzzy cabs and can usually be detected quickly, amps can also hold smoke and animal odor but most do not notice until it is at home stinkin up the place.
Give it all a good sniffin.

Also make sure they are the original speaker and not a cab they are selling after it has been...um "upgraded".

They will tell you the new speakers are better. Unless they did some good research and calculations the replacements will not sound the same as SWR had made the cab originally. Even if they claim it can handle "More Watts".
At this point it is an SWR made box with unknown performance handling, regardless of what the magnets say on the new speakers.

Good luck and please post pictures if you end up getting the rig.

Hey all thanks for your help. I end up buying the equipment:
  • SWR WorkingPro 410
  • SWR 550x Pro Bass Amp
  • Furman m-8Lx
  • Basic 4U mobile rack
Total for combo $950 (price may be high. But keep in mind I don’t live in the US. Getting hold of this kind of equipment is crazy expensive to ship here)
