What BC Rich Mockingbird is this?

Hey bass friends!

I recently purchased this Mockingbird and am having a tough time figuring out the year of the bass. There is no serial number. It has two varitones on it, which the ones from the late 70's seem to have. Also, this bass has a "Keller" pre-amp installed on it. Is anyone familiar with that brand? No google search has been successful on it.

I can't help with identifying it. But it looks AWESOME! Are the trim rings around those pickups stock?

this is the one Atomic Music had
it's a early 1977 after they transitioned from dual humbuckers to the standard DiMarzio DP122's of the era, the bezels are original and were used for a very short time frame as many people didn't find them aesthetically appealing
electronics aren't original in this one if I remember correctly, the switch configuration is but the circuit would have been a 'bread board' style from the era

Thanks man! You are 100% correct on the place. The electronics were swapped out for the Keller I believe, but I have yet to find any info on that brand. Must be lost to time I guess.

It might be. I’ll actually have my hands on it tomorrow, maybe the innards will have a brand that’ll answer the mystery. I’m also keeping the possibility someone told the shop a “Killer” pre-amp and they misheard!

I can't seem to find the listing on this one but remember it had some sort of HS repair

Lacking a serial number is not super uncommon , I've owned a few
Also it was very common for the neck cores to have been just a tad short in which case they added an inch or two to the end of the blank, usually in the area that would be stamped with the serial

It's a replaced headstock. It's real solid though, I wouldn't have noticed it unless it was said in the listing. It's in great condition. Some buzzing every now and then which I'll have looked at, but it sounds amazing with tons of bite to the tone.
