Other than reminding me she was not a bass geek and really didn’t care which strings/amp/cab/strap/pick guard/…/…/…/…/…/… the hive mind considered best, and thought the never ending “best bass for metal” joke was as pathetic as the old joke about convicts yelling out numbers instead of jokes, but she was indulgent because it kept me calm and out of her hair.

My wife is ok with it. She thinks it’s weird and funny that I can spend so much of my time reading about bass. She says (and I can’t really argue with this) “they all just sound like basses”. I’ve been a tone chaser for decades, and that’s how she brings me down from my psychotic flights when I can’t decide between two basses or techniques or whatever:
“That one sounds like, um, a bass”
“That one too”
“They both sound fine”
“You know you play bass, right?”
