What it sounds like to be in the audience, or, what I can't hear on stage

I am a hobbyist making stone picks that I sell but mostly give away. They made me do this anyways.
Our video guy made us 2 videos, one with the recording off the board and another with the audience blended in.

My band uses In Ear Monitors and I don't really hear much of anything except what comes over the IEM. This audience reaction kinda shocked me! Never knew we had this level of reaction.

From the board (what I hear):

With audience (what I don't hear):

Nice sound!

With the board mix I hear a ton of hi hat. I wonder how you can stand that in your IEM mix? (I use IEM’s with midi drums so don’t have a frame of reference)

The crowd sound has cymbals louder than everything else. Hardly any backing vocals, almost no bass. I guess it’s still a board mix with some ambient mic’s mixes in? I’m sure it sounded much different live though.

Funny about the audience singing you can’t hear! I had the same experience (my band mate insists on loud monitors and I use IEM’s to block them out and prevent hearing damage).

Thanks. My actual monitor mix has no drums in it. I'm standing right next to him so don't really need the drums in the mix.

Yeah, there was an ambient mic blended in for the first time on any of our videos. It was a revelation. There's so much isolation with the IEMs it's difficult to hear. I see mouths moving but that's about it.
