What "P" for my Quarter Pounder bridge pickup? p/j perspectives sought

I've found that using mismatched pickups on a P/J is a risky proposition. Most importantly, the inductance of different brands of pickups differ greatly. Things can get pretty burly on one side and be mouse fart quieter on the other, even if you raise or lower each one to taste (also reducing playing comfort). Also, you have to make sure you use a pickup configuration that won't create noise...like split coil, single, or whatever to match the other one. Manufactures design them in sets for a reason.

Gotcha. Thx. I'm putting these into a shielded body, so that their single coil issues are minimized...
hoping that people, like Yahboy, who are experienced achieving a good match with this pup will chime in before I head
off in the wrong direction.

I've done it before. I bought a Bart P which I LOVED the tone of...only to see that the volume issues were impossible to manage with the other J. Not to mention a TON of hassle. I ended up getting the matched set and love it now. If I were you...I'd make sure you love the sound of the J pup you have now, otherwise I'd sell it and get a matching set of something that you love the sound of.

Another thing to remember is that you can use lower output for neck position but not the other way round, a bridge pickup will nearly always be lower volume due to the difference in string excursion
