Hi guys, I'm about to learn bass guitar, bought the guitar, lead, need an amp, was looking at either a Fender Rumble 40W, VOX VX50A or an Orange Crush 25W, there's too many websites and far too many confusing comments...any suggestions on where I should be heading, my guitar is a Hofner Club Bass.

Cheers...Stu.

Me have da Rumble. Me like da Rumble. :bassist:

What you need (or want) for an amp may change rapidly in the next short period of time.
You are basically looking at amps in the practice category.
Any of them should be good for learning and/or home practice.

By the time you get a few lessons or self taughtness under your belt, or start playing with others and especially as you hang out around this place, your thoughts likely will change.

Anyway... welcome to TB. This is a great resource for all things bass and few things that aren't.
Good luck with your learnin'.
Check out the classifieds here. You might find a good deal on something you didn't even know existed.

Cheers for the advise lads, I think one that sounds good, is within a reasonable budget and obviously has to match the colours of the guitar and we're sorted...Stumbo, I've got plenty of music shops near me but I wouldn't have a clue weather it sounds good or not mate, at this stage I can't even name all the strings...!:D

The answer to your dilemma is so simple. Just buy them all! Really. Buy every great bass amp in history in one affordable box. NAD = Lightning In A Box!

I’m going to go with an unpopular opinion and suggest the orange crush 25. I just bought one last week actually. Out of the other amps in it’s price range it’s less wattage and has a smaller speaker, but to me it is built significantly better, and has better tone than the others. The headphone out is also one of the best I’ve ever tried.

Not sure how this site works if I do a search for Rumble club came across this thread and can relate. Have a Rumble 40 and 100. Sold the Ampeg I was using during jams...would like a bigger Rumble that I can carry. Any suggestions...?

For just starting out and learning - I'd recommend any 10-20watt combo with an 8" speaker and a headphone out for $99 or less. Chances are - just starting out you can drive members of your household crazy with the repetitive routines it takes to become confident in playing a stringed instrument. Even with years under my belt - I still prefer not to disturb people with working out a bass line when it's just me.

My first bass amp was a 15w fender rumble.. and years later while my 500w gigging rig is sitting at my drummer's house only being used for the directout, I still play the rumble at home rather than crate my gear back and forth. If I need to record something I throw a microphone in front of it.

Just be prepared to get something with a lot more oomph when you're ready to start playing with a drummer, unless you have personal monitors and p/a mixer support in which case you could easily get away with putting a mic in front of a small amp, or even just use a Sansamp DI. I don't even use my speaker cabinet with MY current jamspace situation.

Have a Rumble 100 for practice. Need something when jamming or a gig in a larger room. The Ampeg was so hard to move, glad we sold it...even though I loved the sound it produced...could hear myself with the guitar players and drummer. Need an amp that I can move myself and gives awesome sound.

Id be looking at Rumble 500, GK MB 112 or Markbass CMD 121p.

what’s your budget? Tone preferences? Box size and weight limit?
