Which crossover to buy? Fearful 12/6

TB family,

My Alpha 6 stopped working. The 12" woofer is working great and still kicking!

I'm going to swap out the 6 and the crossover. Just to be safe.

I went to SpeakerHardware.com, they have 2 crossovers listed for the 12/6

greenboy fEARful DIY Crossovers
fEARful CGB 12/6 Crossovers
fEARful True 12/6Crossovers

Does anyone know which is the right one to buy?

I took a pic of the crossover that is in the 12/6 when I bought it.

Thanks TB,
Rodney

That crossover is not a fEARful crossover. It looks like a version of the Eminence PXB2:xxx 2-way crossover, probably 800Hz. I bet that light bulb which is the speaker protection for your mid speaker has burned out. You should be able to see if the filament has burnt open. $6 part. New light bulbs can be found on the page listed at the bottom. Your Alpha 6 is probably fine, $50. Test it with an ohm meter. Should be about 7 ohms, maybe less. If you want to put in a spec fEARful crossover and assuming you only have a 12" and 6: speaker and no tweeter, IOW a fEARful 12/6, you want the CGB crossovers. Because you wrote crossovers in plural, I suspect you understand you need both the low pass and the high pass boards.

I'm going to check the filament and test the alpha 6 asap.

TBH.... I should just get rid of the crossover completely and put in all original crossover. (bought the cab used from another TB'er)

This is great info! Thank you. I'll keep you posted.

It appears the replacement part uses two light bulbs in parallel. I believe these are 24volt, 10 watt bulbs. 100 watts into an 8Ω speaker is 28 volts. Of course, the bulb is in series with the driver, so each has a proportion of the voltage drop. The resistance of the lamp increases as it begins to heat up/illuminate. This appears as compression. The two light bulb configuration will reduce the apparent ratio of compression.
