which power amp to match with GED-2112 and Bergantino HDN 112 cab?

Hi folks, I recently bought the GED-2112, and ordered the HDN 112 cab today. I would like to move from my Ampeg PF-20T to a power amp for various reasons.

Could you please recommend me a power amp which would match my new gear interms of wattage, connections and quality? I play and record at home. No gigging.

Below is what I have found so far based on previous posts, and using TB search. I do not mind paying more than what these cost matching the quality of what I already have is more important.

A now discontinued Crown Audio XLS 1000 is available at a small discount. This is a new unit, 215 watt per channel at 8 Ohm. The website says bridged at 8 Ohms it is 700 watts, which is more than what the Bergantino HDN 112 is rated for (350 watts).

I know the wattage calculations are not as straightforward as matching two numbers... But not much more than that...

There is also the cheaper current model Crown Audio XLI 800 - 200 watt per channel at 8 Ohm, or 600 watt bridged. I am not sure about the bridging process either.

Thanks BadExample - I am indeed considering the XLS series.

So the XLS 1002 is the current model. I read the literature from the manufacturer, and gonna read the manual too. I do not think there is anything that specifically says 'suitable for bass guitar amplification,' but I think there are quite a few TB folks who actually use this amp in their rig.

The remaining question for me is - is it the best match for the GED-2112 and the HDN 112? If I there is smth better out there, I would rather spend the $$ now, rather than have 'upgrade GAS' later, and lose money in the process. And what I mean by better is reliability (amps with moving parts... will eventually give up), noise level of the fan, and signal noise.

But I hear you, the XLS 1002 seems to be a good candidate.

Fans are cheap.

You won't find too many passively cooled amps for any money these days.

Burning anything more than 50w will be an annoyance to your neighbours. So it doesn't matter what amp you get as long as the fan runs quietly emough for you and you keep it attenuated.

Your Sansamp can drive anything.

I take it you know how to run the Deep out to the fx return 50/50 on the Drive channel and use the Drive out as your blended output?

Thanks Downunderwonder. I think you are right. I know some bass players here use Bryston Power amps, which I am familiar from the world of hifi stereo, and some of their models are convection cooled and housed in a fully aluminum chassis... Of course, they cost $$$$...

I opened the guts of the GED-2112, and using the TEch-21 published how-to-manual (extra service manual to which one can find links here on TB), bridged the two preamps internally - for now. I might undo that after some experimentation (if I see benefits to, for example, compressing the two preamps very differently when I am recording).
