to hook up my tc electronic thrust 500 to my 2x10 fender rumble v3?
No idea about speaker cables. Couldn't find anything specific online. What is typically used, what hould I know about speaker cables?

Thx in advance!

If we're talking about the BQ-500, it's a single NL4 only. OP likely needs a Speakon to quarter-phone speaker cable.

Edit: If the cab has both quarter-phone and Speakons, use a Speakon-to-Speakon cable. 16 ga. is plenty big; as mentioned, only buy cables with genuine Neutrik NL4 connectors -- there are counterfeits available and they're mostly bad news.

Speaker cables are much more heavy duty than instrument cables! They carry high voltage compared to much lower instrument signal level cables. Instrument cables cannot handle speaker duty. They can be difficult to tell apart if both have 1/4" connectors. SpeakonTM connectors are often used by speaker cables, but almost never for instrument cables.

Don't they both have combo Speakon or 1/4" female jacks?

Even if they have combo SpeakonTM+1/4" connectors, I'd recommend using a genuine Speakon cable, so not to be confused with 1/4" instrumental cables.

I have Speakon connections on my amp and cab. I use regular speaker cable (not instrument cable) with a Neutrik connector at the end. It snaps on.
It's cheaper than buying a good Speakon cable with Neutrik connector. Whatever you do, don't get a cheap connector!
Neutrik works best, I find, and are not expensive.

does the cable diameter matter? which length is reaonable? I could imagine it does something, due to resistence?
Unless you are thinking of going with something extremely long (say over 20 ft.) the length of the cable will have no real discernable effect on your sound, i.e. don't worry about that aspect too much. Just get the length that works for you.

Please understand that the smaller the gauge number a speaker cable is, the thicker the wire, but as mentioned above, 16 AWG is fine(you can usually find the rating printed/embossed in very small lettering on the cable outer sheild rubber or plastic)for short runs. I can’t imagine you needing anything over 2-3 ft.

Yes, make sure you use genuine Neutrik, and please, please, please, don’t mistake or use a guitar/bass/instrument/signal cable for speaker cable(or use speaker cable for instruments). Two different animals entirely.

A good cable with Neutrik connectors will last for years - you will replace your instrument cables much more often. I have some Speakons (with Neutriks) that are at least 13 years old still working fine.
I have about 50 SpeakOn cables that are almost 20 years old with years of touring duty. The real Neutrik plugs and quality cable are incredibly reliable.
