Jamerson, Kaye, Osborn, Dunn, Jemmott, Hood, Cogbill, Babbitt, and so on, using primarily P’s and J’s. You could consider standout bassists in bands who were immensely popular at a particular time, but how far their influence reaches is always open to debate. Obviously, I listed those whose heyday was in the 60’s, but these are the people who set the standards and legitimized the electric bass; moving past that era, styles and sounds became far more esoteric and divergent.
