Why does YouTube work sometimes and not others?

Sometimes YouTube videos embedded in posts work fine, other times they do not and say I need to log in.

But there’s no way to login from the window in the post, and if I login to YouTube in a different tab, or open the YouTube app installed on my phone, it still won’t open the videos and says I need to log in.

This was never a problem on the old site. Can you fix it or tell me how to make it work? Thanks.

Nope - doesn’t play at all.

It says sign in to confirm you are not a bot, but doesn’t provide an affordance to sign in.

OP, are you signed into any google account? the video played for me in this browser, but it also played for me in another browser where i've never been to youtube, but i notice it showed that account's google account in the corner of youtube.

I could be wrong, but I think this has to do with the safety and settings on the given video. If it's not uploaded and marked as "safe for kids", or whatever the verbiage is, it may not play in an external window without someone logging in to confirm age.

From what I understand, YouTube is having a payment dispute with the European copyright service and restricts playing of certain videos for the time being.
