Here we go yet again, this time with no less than THREE new builds, all of which are guaranteed to be done at some point at least six months after the build-off deadline. Just like always!!!

Rather than attempt a single linear build, I’m going to do this in batch runs to maximize efficiency.

Bass #1 will be made from the most insanely crazy slab of box elder burl on the planet:

Bass two will be made from the most insane slab of tiger maple I could find after scouring all of North America and parts of Europe:

Bass three will be built with my son, using this fantastically unblemished slab of quilted maple that he picked out for himself.

That Box Elder burl is WAY over the top!

Exactly what I was going for! MTD has done a number of instruments over the past few years with these very cool two-tone topwoods, and they're all so distinctive looking. My goal for that box elder bass is something truly unlike anything else that is out there.

Your post made me wonder what kind of burls are in the ancient box elder in my front yard. ;)

My wife keeps yelling at me about covering up the central hippie sandwich with a top. She also doesn't understand why I insist on putting a fretboard over the neck laminates either. I keep telling her "It's still visible from the back" and she keeps yelling "But it should be visible from the front!"

I’m just glad I’m not the only one whose wife gives “helpful feedback!”
