Would you rather

Match em' up, Sunn & Sunn would be my choice.

If my memory is correct, the Sunn 415 is sorta low end shy (a good thing to my ears, helps it to set in a band mix better), has good projection and decent power handling, but it is a pretty big cabinet with some weight to it.

The Ampeg B25 cabinet is fairly low power handling with it's stock drivers, (and once again if memory is intact) it's a 16 ohm cabinet. Thin in depth but wide. It's heavy, and, for me, it was hard to transport.
(The B25 cabinet I had was loaded with 2-15" Altec drivers and took two band members to carry and my ears was never thrilled with it's sound.)

They’re both wonky cabs; I am a huge Sunn fan, 50 year user(200s, 2000s, OG Coliseums), and I had one of those 4x15’s. With that V-shaped baffle, there’s not a lot of box room. Failed experiment. And the Ampeg, they are limited/worthless just like Fender Showman/Bassman cabs are...too shallow. They look cool, but that’s about it. I’d keep looking.

Welcome to TalkBass!!!!

Honestly, there are much better cabs out there. An Ampeg 810 would serve you well.

But if you're young and healthy and HAVE to choose from those two, get the Sunn.... because the only thing better than more is more more.

Word. I had a feeling! Seemed like a failed design from what I’d been reading. I already have a 115 cube rear-ported Bag End cabinet... I was just thinking more is more. I have an ampeg 810 but it’s up in NJ and I’m down here in the Florida Keys. I would love it if there were a sunn 200s cab around here somewhere since those are the match for my heads but they don’t seem to be around. Should I just save my money and wait? I don’t need to buy anything necessarily - just want a big ass boomy cab. Whaddaya guys think?

Yeah. Save up and keep looking. Something better will come along.

Keep in mind that a 2000s head is 30” wide, the 200s gear is 24”; unless you wouldn’t mind putting a 200s cab on its side, it’s going to look weird otherwise. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with the performance of those, as long as it’s loaded with JBL D140’s, but it an aesthetics thing. The 2000s cabs were the same design, just wider and taller, same depth(15”).

Honestly I think the head looks badass

Could just save my money and drop an f-ing grand to get the sunn 215 with the jbl D140’s. Perhaps I should do that. But man, I got bad bad terrible GAS.

Well, yeah, but you shouldn’t have to spend a K note on one. The ones on Reverb and Ebay are way overpriced, especially since the stock has dropped on big, older amps.

You know you want it ... buy it... buy it now ;)

Welcome to TB! Just be resigned to the fact that you will not find a factory made 30” wide cab. Maybe a fearless or fearful custom 212 or 215 can be configured for that form. My 2000S stays home and I’m using a Reeves C225. It is 24” wide and still T-tops some cabs. I used to see ads that show the Sunn))) head straddling 2 speaker cabs. There is also a 4 ohm tap that you can use if you go for a 212,215.

So to follow up for clarification - pass on the 415? The novelty of the idea of 415’s loaded into a dumb small box does seem pretty cool to me - and from what I’ve heard it’s mid-punchy which I like a lot... should I just hold my horses and wait for a decently priced 200/2000s cab with the jbl D140’s? Esp since I already have an 810 just not where I am... thing is I plan on moving in about a year and I don’t want the 810 in my Subaru when I make the move. But if it were a sunn can with my amps I would make the exception.

like I said before.. I have the 200s and the 2000s - I have one cab, I want a second one so I can pair each with its own cab..

Sorry I’m so on the fence about everything and staring at the 415 on Craigslist makes me go hnnng
