It's often been pointed out that strings are bass-specific. One bass likes a certain string - another bass hates it.

I just order a new set of Perpetuals for my 7/8 Shen Gemunder. The first ones lasted about a year and a half. That bass really loves the Perpetuals.

I have been having 'issues' with my 2nd bass - an Eastman 3/4. I had Spiro Weichs on it and wasn't really excited. I tried putting the OLD Perps on the D and G and it became totally BLAH. I was starting to think it was time to move this bass on to someone else. Fortunately, I have a fairly deep string drawer that included Zyex D & G's in both Medium and Light. I have one set on my Palatino 'stick' and they are nice on that. I'm don't know which is the Light set and which is the Medium, but I took the two I had in the drawer and put them on the Eastman. WOW !!!

All of a sudden that little bass is fun to play. Even more amazingly, by making some fairly aggressive EQ adjustments I can get the bow to sound beautiful and rich through the amp. Since my Genzler Acoustic Gollihur model has two channels I can set one for Pizz and one for Arco and use my A/B switch to switch between them.

I feel like I just got a 'FREE BASS'. (That's the only kind my wife lets me get).

I think @Mark Gollihur mentioned in another thread that Zyex tend to work well on more finnicky basses. If you think about it D'Addario is a huge company and likely put alot of thought/research into the design of those strings to create a consistent experience for all users, as much as possible. I would imagine they have an R&D budget well above smaller manufacturers.
