Yamaha BB 1200

So...I just picked up this sweet Yamaha from my dad. It was the bass he gigged with every night for 25 years. Glad to have it... for sure. Trying to figure out exact year this baby was made. But his memory (likely shaded by a bit too much life in the 70's and 80's) has faded a tad. All he can tell me is that it was somewhere between 1978 and 1982 (The Lost Years).

Darn thing is...I can't find a serial # on this thing anywhere.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery for me?

First - that thing is just gorgeous - really! Keep me in mind when you get tired of it!

I was also playing back then and found a lot of instruments did not have serial #s at the time. During that time I had inscribed my DL # on several pieces in case they were stolen. Have you removed the neck to see if there is anything in there?

Should be stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock. Often very faint. Hold it at an angle to the light to see.
