Yamaha BB434 and pickups

Has anyone here changed the pickups on their BB434 bass? I have one and while I love the feel and balance, I find the lows a bit light, and the overall tone a tad on the modern side, as in bright. I use the split-P most of the time, with both the bridge PU and tone backed off to almost zero. I'd like to aim for a more classic 60s P tone, with a bit of play on the overall tone via the J pickup. Have been looking at Aguilar PUs, would appreciate any advice from those who've gone down this route. And would changing pots/parts effect the tonal outcome?
Thank you.

Pots really won’t get you that overall tone shift that you need. On mine, I went with a Fender CS split coil out of a Mike Dirnt signature bass. For the bridge, I went with a Joe Barden Dual blade humbucker (single coil shape so,no routing) and I’m so glad I did. The tone from the bridge is just mucho fat and warm. It can totally stand on its own, for sure.

Strings would make a big difference. The 434 has standard sized pickups, so I think you’d have similar experience to any other PJ swap. In other words, research PJ swaps regardless of the bass, and you’ll find a lot of useful suggestions.
