Your opinions on squier bronco bass?

One of the most comfortable necks I've ever played and a great candidate for modding.
Have had several of them and yeah. Just comfortable as hell to play, I know some folks find the pickups a little plain due to it essentially being a strat pickup. Everything you need, nothing you don't, nice and cheap so you won't feel bad about changing stuff around if modding is your thing.
the Affinity? I tried one yesterday in a GC, and if I'd had the room to store it I'd have bought it. Nice comfortable neck. The neck wood actually had the most beautiful flame figure I've ever seen in any neck in a long time; I posted a pic of it yesterday or the day before.
I had one that I modded. I sold it for some reason...I wish I hadn’t. It was light and comfortable to play.
Actually mine intonated pretty good. Better than I expected.
My Musicmaster was set up with that type of bridge for years and never had an issue. When I let my son paint it I upgraded to a string through body bridge and that has individual saddles. And I changed out the strat pickup to a four pole SD model. Those changes seemed up the low end and sustain in my opinion.
I've actually never played a Bronco though either.

My favorite bass. Honestly. Once modded to liking it's a sweet light and ergonomic instrument.
Quality is there as most modern Squier and the platform to mod is endless because of the Strat pickup (just go look at how many Strat pickups there are out there.) Simple wiring and electronics like any single coil.
A go to pickup for me and what I had in my last one was a GFS 15k Strat Bridge Lil Killer Hotrail. Wow!
I used to play through a Carvin R1000 head with a Peavey Black Widow 1x15. The Bronco with that hot rail and some GHS P flats was a monster. It drove that setup to the max even at lower volumes.
My current Bronco is still stock. But I've got another Hotrail, a GFS Lipstick tube and one of the new GFS Brian May "Brighton" pickups I'm dying to try out.
String choices depend on what I'm feeling in particular for. The factory Fender 5250's are are a great roundwound. Other than that I like GHS P flats or LaBella white nylon tapes.

To be honest the original strat pick sounds pretty good, however it is a little noisy the 60 cycle hum was a bit more pronounced than I like. But the tone was similar to a standard jazz pickup, however it had a much lower output. The white cover of it makes the bass look boring and cheap, even though it is a very fun, useable instrument stock.
Got one ready to mod... Mustang pickup, mustang pickguard, bondo, medium scale neck. Before I die, i swear.
Love mine! The Artec 7.18 k pick up is DEAD quiet but also low volume. It is easy to dial in a great tone on my Rumble 40. I'm not crazy about the DaD Chromes but hope they "break in" as some say they should. If not, then a set of LaBella LTFs are on tap. Super neck... Great little bass!
Well, that supports the 2-saddle supporters
Bronc.,Great modding platform.Neck and body good as they are.2 saddle bridge can get close enough.Tuners and pickup have to go tho.Almost any thing is an upgrade to the stock tuners and pickup,so use what you can get cheap or have on hand.Put an emg 35 sized pickup in it and you have a skid row version of the squier mikey way.I have a older musicmaster body that's getting a small case chi-sonic in it.

Great looking project. Love the look of that pickup. Love the body wood exposed like that. The Bronco maple necks always seemed to have a very nice grain and look to them compared to other maple fretboards.
Tuners are something I've never delved into because they are an oddball size.
Do you have any drop in replacement recommendations?
I usually drill to fit what I have on hand,that body is a mustang guitar body repurposed into a musicmaster bass.The orig. color was red.
Looks great! Where did you get the phenolic saddles and whatr's your opinion of them?

I picked those up from a guy maybe 5 yrs ago.No sure if was here or not , he was discussing making some.I contacted him and got a set for a look -see.Never did use them.They look really well made,but can offer no real use info,for now.
