Hi all, I've been searching through the both TB archives and Googling around on the web, looking for some more recent info on the Zadow magnetic pickup.
I'm a magnetic pickup fan, especially for loud situations. No, it's not an accurate representation of the true sound of my double bass, but it sure helps with the drums and lap steel, and the FOH guys seem to love it. Anyway, regarding the Zadow, I've visited the manufacturer's website and read the material there, but I'm looking for user experience. The threads I've found here on TB are rather dated.
I've seen some colleagues using the Zadow at larger festivals, situations in which I've been blending my Krivo pickup with a piezo. Just wondering if any of you have used it. The potential positives I see are:
-It's smaller and more elegant-looking than the Krivo/Biesele
-It appears to have less mass hanging on the end of the FB
-It doesn't have the Borg-engineered aesthetic of the Biesele.
Finally, if I may digress a bit, one of the main issues I'm having with the Krivo is with the industrial (3M) velcro on the end of the fingerboard. It's ok (actually a really cool productn with so many uses), but if you're moving around or play percussively at all the pickup can come loose. After a couple of mid-set falls and a trip to the soldering table I've finally just settled on reinforcing the 3M hook and loop by running a small strip of gaff tape around the bottom of the pickup and along both sides of the fingerboard.
Any input/opinions/experience? Thanks y'all.
