Zoom B3 "Greatest Hits of the Talkbass Forum"-Best Patch Ideas

Hello people,

As an extension of Crystalman85's infamous thread, I have created this thread in order to compile a list of the best creations to come out of that thread. It helps people find the best sounds easier, instead of scrolling through 85+ pages of patches, with feedback, requests and other comments. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead guys!

Thanks for the appreciation of my thread. I wouldn't say it's infamous, but I would say it's my most successful thread. and yeah I will agree that my thread was getting filled up by requests, but I still manage to help them out. and since this thread is based on favorite patch ideas as well as finding them in a more easier way, here are some of my personal favorites.

Modern bass distortion

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 100, attack: 7

Section 2: metalwrld: gain: 40, tone: 25, level: 100, balance: 18

Section 3: svt: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 40, level: 40, ultra: low, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Vintage grind

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 100, attack: 7

Section 2: squeak: gain: 25, tone: 40, level: 100, balance: 25

Section 3: bassdrive: bass: 4, treble: -3, presence: 0, gain: 45, blend: 70, level: 90, mid: 5

These patches are by far the best distortion patches I've ever created.

What about best clean and overdrive patches Crystalman?

Any patches based on KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Tool, Slipknot, Placebo, Operation Ivy, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Black Light Burns or anything else from that thread will be welcome here! I have some of them screenshotted somewhere if necessary, also a RATM attempt that I made (@TheIndieKid was it any good?) that I could also dig out and post.

Cheers!

It was great. Tim C's tone is impossible to nail though ):3

What about best clean and overdrive patches Crystalman?

The best clean patches I ever created were these patches.

Cool chorus

Section 1: bottom b: bass: 3, treble: 2, level: 50

Section 2: chorus: depth: 50, rate: 18, mix: 50, locut: 200hz, level: 90, pred: on

Section 3: hartke: bass: 3, mid: 2, treble: 4, midfq: 300hz, tube: 35, gain: 45, level: 90, comp: 2, cab: swr4x10, mix: 50

Bartolini emulator

section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 4, level: 100, attack: 7

section 2: bottom b: bass: 3, treble: 5, level: 50

Section 3: ac bs pre: gain: 59, depth: 7, level: 90, bass: 2, lomid:3, lm_f: 2, mid: 0, hi-mid: -2, treble: 3

I like using chorus when I play clean and distorted bass. first patch I've posted is my personal clean chorus patch. the 2nd patch I've posted is a patch that duplicates a bartolini pick-ups sound. since I'm a fan of bartolini pick-ups as well as emg pick-ups, I created this patch to emulated the warm dark sounds that bartolini pick-ups provide. and here's what I would consider to be the best overdrive patch that I created.

Warm drive

section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 90, attack: 7

section 2: bass bb: gain: 10, bass: 3, treble: -2, blend: 40, level: 80

section 3: acoustic: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: -2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 40, level: 85, bright: off, cab: ag1x15, mix: 50

This patch is really more of a warm low-gained distortion sound, but due to it's drive, it can be classified as an overdrive.

yes we should make an index for the patch guys for an easy access imho

I couldn't agree more. my thread was meant to share patch ideas while others try them out and share some patch ideas of their own. but because the thread was filling up with feedbacks and requests, some members here were taking a long time to scroll through the thread to find what patch they're looking for. and not everyone has the time for that. so thankfully this thread would make things a whole lot easier to find some of the greatest patches for the zoom b3.

Section 3: b-man: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: -2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 40, level: 57, deep: on, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Hopefully this would be useful for those looking for that darkglass sound they want.

Any tips or links to good synth patches? I normally don't use them but I'm filling in on bass for my buddy's 80's band and they're doing Whitney Houston, Madonna.......type stuff.

I don't know if TheindieKid would allow request posts here. I do believe that this is an index type thread where people can find some of the greatest zoom b3 patch ideas in a more easier way. however, there are other threads you can go to to discuss this. and if anyone did manage to create an 80s synth patch, it will be added here so bassists in 80s cover bands will be able to find that patch.

Don't mean to sound like a totalitarian, but I did create this within mind of bringing the best patches to light so that people can find the most popular settings without having to scroll through just short of 100 page, a lot of which is requests. You could have a look on Crystalman's B3 patch ideas thread or make a request there. There are a lot of people committed to that thread and would gladly give you a reccomendation. Sorry to be doom and gloom here, but good luck on your search!

If anyone arriving here doesn't know it, the infamous thread is this one - Zoom b3 patch Ideas. Kudos to Crystalman85 for that mega thread and The IndieKid for this one.

(Edit, updated the URL to always show the last page, so people can ask immediately, thanks to this tip from Paul, member number 1!)
A "dirty" way of doing this is to modify the page number in the url to something like 999999. The system will send you to the last page that way....

Here is my suggestion. @TheIndieKid keeps editing the 1st post, adding new Patch ideas as they're suggested. That way you don't have to search through the thread to find the patches, they're all at the front. We use a standard format to make it easier for him to just copy/paste into his 1st post. We come up with categories to make it easier to navigate. I just purchased a Zoom B3 from a fellow TBer, and I'm very excited to try some of these out.

Thanks for the kudos. and as mentioned before, I don't consider my thread to be infamous. but more or less my most successful thread. I started that thread cause I came up with ideas of patches and shared them here to help out talkbass members who own a zoom b3 and are in need of nifty patches.

Hi There,

Not to totally derail this thread but I just took possession of a B3 this weekend and I had a quick question. There are 100 preloaded patches, going from A0 - J9. Once you bring up a patch, it appears to me that if you vary anything while on a specific patch, those changes to the patch are saved on the fly. With my experimentation with different effects, I've just kept it on patch A0, with the realization I lose the preloaded patch for A0. When you save one of your own patches, do you have to eliminate a preloaded one?

Thanks for your help.
