I just got an MS-60B, and was wondering about the virtual effects chain situation.. I reset it to factory settings, but it seems like there is a default effects chain that I can't seem to delete.. When I select any effect, there is an arrow to the side which indicates other effects being used in the chain - Bass Para EQ and Bass Booster. Are those just added automatically to any effect I choose? When I go to Settings it simply lets me change the order of those effects, not remove them from the chain. Not a big deal, just wondering!

Sorry I do't have time to look now (packing for a gig) but you can definitely have chains with zero fx in them.
There are factory or demo patches that reappear with a factory reset, but you can edit the patches to your liking.
I can edit the parameters of any patch I choose, but if I hit the Left or Right buttons, it seems that every effect seems to be in a chain with those two other effects I mentioned.. I'm just not sure if I'm misinterpreting things, or what..
Ha - I was a little afraid I was going to delete whole patches, not just delete them from any given chain.. So it seems like I'll need to manually delete Bass Para EQ and Bass Booster from each patch I choose, considering every patch has those automatically attached to it for some reason.. It just seems odd that would be the default for any given patch - to already be in a chain..
Patches are pre-setup chains that the factory thought are good to show off the capabilities of the product. Most of the patches are presets with names, and at the end you'll find some are empty. In the empty ones you can assign up to 4 effects in a row for your chain (or as few as just one).
The presets may have as many as 4 in each, but you can go in and edit or delete, or remove any that you don't want.

It's a lot less confusing and useful to delete all the factory "gee wiz bedroom" patches from the start. I generally just overwrite them all with my "default patch" that contains the AcBsPre (just for it's variable HPF) and the ZNR. I put an empty chain in the last slot just because I can

No multiFX does such a thing, it'd be like self destructing. OTOH, on the slightly more advanced MS-100BT you can in fact get new effects uploaded by means of a mobile app and Bluetooth. I don't know what happens when you fill its FX capacity, I assume it has to overwrite some existing effect (not that it would be a problem to get rid of any of the -too damm many- choruses or reverbs). As per your question, you can't delete an effect itself. You remove it from a certain patch's chain. The MS60B allows for any 4 effect combined in any order, so total flexibility in that respect. Your question reveals you haven't checked the manual enough, it's 100% clear there.

The actual list of effects is only accessed when you go to one of the effect slots in a pedal chain and push up or down on the direction pad. Maybe it'll help if you reframe your perspective. What you are describing is not the "raw list" of effects...it's the "patch bank", or your list of saved pedal chains. Look at it more like storage space instead of an effects list. As you may have figured out, you can erase every one of the patches to have an empty storage space and you won't have touched the actual effects models in the pedal.
Thanks much, and everyone else! I certainly DID read the manual top to bottom, and it wasn't clear. I'm not used to digital multi effects, so I appreciate those of you who helped without judgement.
No worries if this is your first foray into Zoom or digital multi effect it can be daunting, there is a lot going on under the hood, no matter how simple it looks on the outside. It takes a while to fully grok the possibilities.
Definitely if this is your first multiFX experience it might be harder to find your way in this cramped unit than in a bigger "front end" with more controls. Still don't give up, this MS60B is a really powerful and versatile tool once you figure it out. There's a firmware update available since last June. With it, available effects jump from 60 to 142 overall, an awesome deal for a 100 buck gadget.
