Basically a drop-in mod, if you keep the stock ferrules and screws (must use new countersunk screws on BT10)
Sourced from @RocketMusic (TB Member that's a HipShot dealer)
Pros: 27:1 Ratio makes adjusting tuning more accurate, also adjustable tension.
Cons: BT10 is a little big for this headstock; (not really a con, but I don't think these are any lighter)

    HipShot HB10 x 4

    halfwound121
Much higher tuning ratio than stock and they stay in tune more readily. Probably the best mod for the money. Cost about $100 depending on where you buy them.
    APeterson
I just installed the Hipshot HB10s, replacing the standard tuning machines on my JCJB, and reduced the overall weight by 32g (1.1oz). So in addition to the higher tuning ratio, adjustable tension, and super easy drop-in replacement, there's a small but measurable weight advantage too. Very satisfied with this upgrade. Note that I did not replace (or weigh) the ferrules - the amount of effort didn't seem worth it, and not where the Hipshot value proposition is found (in my opinion). :) Note that base/shaft length of the HB10s is a bit shorter than the original tuning machines - not an issue for me, but wanted to provide that observation.
    ekattenijke
The new Hipshot HB10 tuners are excellent. I bought the HB10's in the UK (Axesrus). No problem at all with the fixing (no drilling, no differences in measurements and screws).

    Gotoh GB350

    manchego_eggo
Reduced weight from 7.9lbs to 7.5-7.6lbs

    Bridges

    HipShot Vintage Bridge

    halfwound121
Just a bit nicer-looking for my taste; I don’t like the string balls showing. Nothing wrong with the stock one though. Cost about $75 depending on where bought.

    Pickups

Frelin pickups (+5 neck pickup, -5 bridge)

    SafeOnBass (Link to Post)
I did have to do some slight dremel carving to make the new pickups fit in the pickguard. Very happy with the sound. Significant improvement, IMO. The sound is deep and rich, and there is some depth I was not getting with the standards. Very quiet. The buzz is gone. I was happy as it was. Now I'm a happy bass camper.

Lindy Fralin dual coil J pickups

    halfwound121
Humbucking replacement of single-coils eliminates noise, and IMO have a better tone than stock. - Expensive mod over $200.

    DiMarzio 60's Jazz

    manchego_eggo
The Sixties pups sound almost like they've been run through a preamp already, like they're very voiced/EQ'd in a way that sits in a mix very nicely, but may not pop when you're playing on your own IMO.

    Pickguards

    Pickguard Planet

    halfwound121
Cosmetic mod, but I don’t like the mint guard with the blue body color. Cost about $25.

    Laservampire
Winding length is perfect and the gauge matches the factory strings.

    D'Addario XL Chromes Flatwound (ECB81S) .045-.100

    Pros: I love flats!
    Cons: IMO, none

LaBella Low Tension Flats LTF-4A-S .042-.100

Thomastik-Infeld JF324 Jazz Flats (yes, 32" Medium Scale)

    APeterson
...they work and sound fantastic. Yes, they are long for the E and A string, but no issues...

    Other

    Custom DIY finger ramp

    Queue20230722_224919.jpg
Sourced the rosewood from eBay, and made it on a bench belt sander!
    Pros: faster, more consistent fingerstyle playing; thumbrest from pickup to pickup; radiused plucking surface matches string height;
Cons: Might get in the way for heavy digging/slapping/popping (but I don't do those)

    Dunlop strap locks

    halfwound121
To fit my straps. Cost $10.

    Copper Shielding

    halfwound121
Just because. Cost unknown, but cheap.

    Schaller Strap Locks

Full chrome kit from Amazon Prime ~$25, like the safety factor.
