I might use a more substantial box/packing in the future. To be clear, Brandon put the bass in its Mono gig bag, and put that in a box with some packing peanuts. This was not at all a case of some guy wrapping a bit of bubble-wrap around a bass and throwing it in a box. The way shippers treat stuff, though, I'm not super-comfortable with a small, unreinforced box with a bass under a bunch of heavy stuff.
Brandon took lots of time, via PM and over the phone, to answer my questions about the bass beforehand and even gave me a little time to try the bass out with the option to return if it wasn't for me. There did end up being a minor issue, but Brandon was up front about that and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to work with the builder to get it resolved. There was a tiny hitch with communication, but that was more on me than on him -- I took longer than our agreed-on time frame to get things checked out with the bass and didn't stay in touch with him during that time.
Like I said, no complaints, and Brandon was more than reasonable to deal with. I'd deal with him again.
