Pros
  • too many to list
Cons
  • So many options, not enough cash.
What happens when superior engineering and cabinet design, meet up with exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and amazing customer service? You get Schroeder bass cabinets.

To say that this little 12PL (Punch lite) cabinet sounds much larger than it is and much deeper than a 12” cabinet should, doesn’t begin to describe the reality of it. I liken it to a chihuahua… It’s small, but it thinks it’s a Rottweiler.

When I first spoke to Mr. Jorg Schroeder, he asked me questions like, what type of music do you play, what bass amp do you use, do you play active or passive basses, and ultimately, what kind of tone are you after. When he suggested the 12PL, I must admit that I was extremely skeptical. I mean, could a single 12” cabinet really handle the lows of my low B string? The answer is not only yes, but with ease and authority.

He asked if I had any “custom” requests. I asked for an orange baffle and black hardware, with a fairly open grill pattern. What he fabricated was beyond my expectations. The orange is just the right amount of brightness, and the outer texture (Duratex I assume) is not only tough but looks good too. Add nice rubbery corner chevrons and this little beast is built like a tank. All that and only 28lbs to boot!

As far as tone is concerned, I have played through many, many bass cabinets in my 40+ years of playing. The list includes Greenboy, Crate, Ampeg, EarCandy, Agilar, Genzbenz, Fender, GK, Trace, PV, and other custom designed one offs. This one is by far the tightest, Fattest, punchiest, than any of the cabinets I’ve ever played through...AND, it does it without harsh highs, nasty mids, boominess or "farting". It’s like Jorg reached into my head and extrapolated my thoughts and tone needs and built the cabinet of my dreams. The power of the B&C 12” 700W speaker and the sweet highs that are produced by the 200W bullet tweeter (with attenuator) is nothing short of amazing. The only thing I could even compare it to would be my late 60’s Ampeg SVT 8X10 cabinet. NOW, hear me out. I know we are talking about 8X10” speakers vs 1X12, but in tone alone, forget form factor, air displacement etc. I’m not comparing volume…but as far as tone is concerned, I’d say it is superior to any cabinet twice the price. The only thing better than one of these cabinets, is two of them.

I have not even mentioned it yet, but not only is the construction and tone of this little beast exceptional, but the price of this cabinet is also very enticing. At only $745, this cabinet is, by far, less than most boutique cabinets on the market.
