Set of DR Hi-Beam Legends flats, pulled off a bass I bought a while back. Relatively new when I got the instrument, still lots of life left in them. $12 shipped CONUS.

I'm getting my first ABG after owning 30+ electrics and three uprights. I prefer the feel and sound of flats (I'm a P-bass/LaBella guy at heart) and would like to retain some usable unplugged volume on my ABG. (Guild B140-E) Anyone out there tried a lot of different ABG strings?
Anybody playing an Ibanez SR bass with flats? I'm looking at maybe getting an Ibanez SR 5005 Prestige and would like to go with flats. Just wondering if anybody had gone this route and what the outcome was.
Barely used Flatwounds DR 5-string set.
.45 - .125
I had these installed by a setup guy in Seattle and then realized I'm not going to use Flatwounds with Alternative Rock group that I was starting to play with at the time! So I took them off.

I read in the giant Mircobass thread that nobody could use flats with it because the acoustic models don't have the moveable bridge to compensate for intonation, but would it be possible or recommended to use the Labella flats on one of the fretless models, and have the player tune and adjust...
Does this exist? I see coated strings but are those coated roundwounds or coated flatwounds? I really want the black string aesthetic on my new bass but I recently bought some Thomastik-Infeld JAZZ Flat Wounds and love them so I am wondering is there a black flatwound string? Or should I just...
Hi all
After speaking to my bandmates after finding that my sound was lacking something we have come to an agreement that what my tone needs is some more low end to it , my bandmate gave the example of the stones, beatles etc and said that the bass is lacking that low end to it. Have decided...
Sadowsky Blue Label flatwounds 40-100 gauge. These have about 5 hours of use so not broken in yet. Installed on Fender p bass with 3 wraps around the posts. $25 shipped conus.

My first bass was a precision bass with a fretless neck, I believe it originally came with flatwounds but I had them changed to grounds on the advice of a friend. I never really thought about the strings much after that and played the bass on and off for almost two decades. More recently I...
I'm on assignment for a few months so I decided to pick up a Mikro bass since it doesn't take up much space on the road. I've been using a SS Jag for a while and have liked the short scale so far, but I did not anticipate having issue choosing strings for the Mikro. I found a few threads on...
So I put a set of Rotosound Truebass black nylon flatwounds on my new Schecter Stiletto stealth 5.
I put black strings on a blacked out bass... So yeah I'm that guy.
All that aside, I found it was incredibly difficult for me to find a set of 5 string flatwounds. I went to 3 different music...
G'day Bass Friends!
Just a bit of a question, just bought myself a nice hollow body, threw some flat wound strings on and after a 3hr jam session I had a huge red hole in one finger and a big blister on the other. I play extremely frequently for hours everyday and have never had this issue with...
Ive been having so many questions that I can't get off my mind lately about the holy rickenbacker 4003 which I want to buy. So this bass has a great history and is definitely well made and I'd like to keep mine in great condition. I do take care of my things, its just that sometimes theres...
Hey guys, first post here.
I'm on a search for some flatwounds for my Jazz that fall somewhere in between GHS Precision Flats and D'addario Chromes. These are the only two sets that I've tried so far, and I found the Chromes a bit too modern and the P Flats a little too vintage, although the GHS...
I really like the tone of the bass in these songs. I'm not detecting any fret or string noise so i'm wondering if it might be flatwounds. All i know is that the bass played is a P/J style bass
My USA Cirrus 5 is my main player (walnut/maple with wenge top) It is light weight, plays amazingly well and sounds great. I am considering installing flatwounds, here is what I am looking for:
- Good mids & articulation.
- Something medium tension on a 35" scale ( I am ok with chromes .045 -...
I am going to convert a bass with a rosewood fingerboard to fretless. Folks say flat-wound strings would suit such a fingerboard better because they won't wear it fast. But flat-wounds are rarer and more expensive at my place.
Does anybody have experience with playing nickel roundwounds on an...
Hello everyone, I recently moved my Curt Mangan flats to my SX P and my Fender 9050Ls to my jazz. I'm really not liking the sound or the tension of the Fender Flats on my jazz, so I asked Jason from BassStringsOnline and he recommended the GHS 55-105 flats or the LaBella Jamersons, but I'm also...
La Bella has new flats in the pipeline! These are expected to be officially announced at the 2017 NAMM show in January.
La Bella Golden Alloy strings are a 80/20 Bronze flat wound. This alloy produces a flat wound with a growly midrange tone. This alloy is also softer to the touch and easier...
Hi,
I'm really enjoying my transiton from roundwounds to groundwounds to flatwounds, currently GHS precission flats, BUT I have an issue with their stickyness...
I'm not talking about the initial stickyness caused by factory goo and dirt, I clean the strings and they are really smooth... until...
...because it's "modified" not "new". SX-PJ62 defretted by my liuther. I changed the knobs and pickguard screws for a total black look. New strings on it, Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats.
Hello All,
as a frequent lurker on Talkbass I buckled and bought flatwounds to give them a try about 6 months ago. They're Rotosound 77's on my AVRI '62 Jazz Bass (for my bands Zeppelin II cover shows), but I've found that I only get about halfway through the album before my plucking hand gets...

I have a set of 40-100 D'addario Chromes on my bass and was wondering how they compare to other sets.
This is what i'm interested in knowing:
Tension,
Brightness,
How long they take to break in,
Feel
Five of the six basses I own all have round wounds with the exception of my Fender Jaco signature J fretless which has the flats. Love it BTW.
I am tempted to convert my current production Am Std P-bass to flats but don't really know what I'm in store for tone-wise. I love the tone of the...
I bought a bunch of flatwounds but I can't make myself swap the existing flatwounds out. I pick the bass up and play it and they both sound good. I've got Chromes on my Fender MIA Jazz and Fenders on my '71 P. Sitting in new packs are TIs, Chromes and Sadowsky Black Labels. Is this a common...
Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand of flatwounds that will work on a dreadnaught style acoustic/electric bass? Right now I have Dean Markley Earthwoods. They are a the phosphor bronze strings. A little to bright for my taste.
