I'm building a Stingray 5 clone. I'ts going to get an alder body, Status Graphite neck, Seymour Duncan mm-pickup and a Hipshot bridge.
Instead of an onboard preamp I'm going to get a pedal preamp to use between the bass and the amp.
Do you have any opinions on what pedal pre will sound closest...
Hi guys. Quick question about preamps. I'm currently using an aguilar OBP-3 on my bass and i was wondering what would be the effect of using a tone hammer with the onboard preamp.
Is there any benefit to using a onboard preamp together with an offboard one?

I pulled this from my Japanese Momose bass. It has a warm tone. Bass, treble, balance and volume. Almost has a tube preamp warmth to it. I had it paired to single coils and it was a good balance to the bright pickups. Momose is made by the factory that builds Bacchus, Str and other high end...
An active pickup set (ie: EMG PJx), an onboard preamp (ie: EMG BQC), or a pedalboard preamp (ie: MXR M81) and why?
I'm just curious who uses what and in which situation each seems to fare best.

I have a 2013 Jazz Bass American Deluxe 5 string. The preamp is making a buzzing noise so it has to be replaced. When I switch to passive mode the noise disappears. I've read that others have had their Fender preamps fail too so I don't want to get another Fender preamp. It seems most everyone...
Just bought from another TBer in the last month. I never installed it as I went with a different preamp. This is in great condition. It is missing the battery terminal but otherwise appears in tip top shape.
The pictures are fro previous thread but looks obviously have not changed. Price...

Hi,
I found myself a Washburn B-15. I purchased it purely as a sentimental value as I had one like that in 1988 ( sold in 2004.... Stupid I am sometimes !!! ). They sound really, really good and I can attest that they are very solid basses, well built at the time!!! They have a PJ pickups...
Subject says it all -
I'm looking for active onboard electronics that include treble and bass cut/boost, but has the overall sound and character of passive. Mostly what I don't like about the active gear is how "sterile" it sounds, particularly the uber bright top end.
Not having to deal...

Long Island City, NY— It's never been easier to get that Sadowsky sound!
For the first time, our preamp is available as a prewired drop-in for J style basses WITHOUT a side jack. No soldering required for installation.
The Sadowsky 3-knob Onboard Bass Preamp is a completely prewired system...
This is a suhr onboard pre. I'm not 100% sure it is 3 band. It
may be 2. Unfortunately I don't have schematics, but I think It's a fairly easy install.

Problem, my Marcus Miller bass' stock preamp died, Fender won't replace it, so I have to buy another brand. I want it to sound as close to Marcus Miller's bass as possible, but as we know that particular Bartolini preamp is discontinued.
Recently, I bought an Aguilar OBP-2SK for my Squier Jazz...
I'm building my first bass guitar, and I'm trying to settle on electronics, hopefully before my next class on Friday. It's a class on solid body electric guitar construction, this is my second semester taking it, first semester I built a Strat, so this semester I thought I'd build a bass, rather...
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a Fender onboard pre, to my P/J project. Can be a MIM or MIA version. Prompt payment. Let me know if you have one, please.

Or PM me, please.
Thanks!
There are dozens of different aftermarket preamps available out there these days, and many of them come in different combinations/number of knobs, etc. How do you all choose which preamp to go with?
I've been scouring the web lately, watching videos, reading reviews and threads about all sorts...
Pretty straight forward question. And if the answer is that an active bass with an onboard preamp can have passive pickups, is there any good reason why it should or should not?
Big fan of the Sadowsky preamp in my Fender Jazz Deluxe bass but it has recently developed an issue where the active circuit "cuts out" at times which forces me to use passive mode. I suspect the VTC control is the problem as it has a lot of static when rotating the knob even after I sprayed...

Just checking in with the experts before I do this.
My bass has (had) an OPB-3 in it wired to 18V. The bass has a double battery box. I'm replacing the preamp with a sadowsky, which is 9v. If I re-wire the battery box to be parallel, and still put 2 batteries in it, it would still be 9 volts...
This is going to be a loaded post so please bear with me:
Part 1 -
So recently, the onboard preamp in my 1990 Ibanez SR800(PJ config) just roasted on me. I know very little about onboard preamps and I couldn't find any previous threads like this(unless I missed something). So my question is...
Hey Folks!
I have a Sadowsky on board preamp that has already been wired. This is THE preamp (at least by my standards ;)) It works fine...just sitting around, so I figured I'll let it go. Comes with the knobs and yes, it does have the VTC. I will send you a wiring diagram (if you need it) to...

Question for players who use onboard active preamps. Do you set the bass control on your bass to get your sound and leave the bass control on your amp set flat or let your amp bass control do the work and keep the onboard preamp flat?
