1960 Jazz bass overspray shenanigans?

Thanks again all -- neck butt attached. Neck seems legit to my eyes. Finish around headstock and back of neck was more the thing that was raising question marks but perhaps these are helpful for the collective sleuthing

@cnltb eagle eyes :) Bass in the background is a 1/58 P. Decal blacklights the same which was encouraging

P Bass in the background is a '68-76 with a non original pickguard. ;-)

Ha! My bad.. have a couple P's floating around in this room. Black light photo P is a 1/58. The white one in the regular light pics is a MIJ PB70.

@Honkey tonk couple on the front page but they're admittedly all neck detailed pics. Here's a quick one of the whole bass

"i've seen lots of old fenders and none are like that" is logical, but also doesn't really mean a whole lot.

with 60 years of life, many things could have happened to make the decal look different than most, or any other, decal.

i agree it looks like perhaps it was in some intense heat at one point.

my gut says it's legit and just been through some unique moments - also it's unlikely the bass was ever soaked in blood, which i personally prefer

Hi all — just received a beautiful 8/60 Jazz bass but a bit worried about the decal here. Why is it wrinkled? Is this definitely the sign of overspray? Some parts of the neck perhaps a little darker but who’s to say that isn’t just lacquer changing over time.

I snapped some pics to share and would love to hear from those in the know. Not my first vintage but always more to learn with this stuff. Black light in the mail as we speak. Thanks!

To be honest I find it looks too clean for a sixty. Are you sure it isn't reliced. The headstock lacquer looks too fresh and the wear on the neck looks too even like it was sanded off and stained slightly gray.

Thank you. That's what we needed. It's fine. Enjoy your bass.

The Jazz decal looks reissue. Neck looks oversprayed, despite blacklight evidence to the contrary. My guesses, anyway!

Just not enough wear on the neck compared to the body and if anybody brings up the bass under the bed / Vietnam war story I will scream.
Fran, Did you used to deal vintage guitars in the 80's. I have this memory that we met maybe in Texas at a show? I used to travel with Gill Southworth and John Sprung back then.

Hey Jim! Yes, and still do, but only from home. Not big on shows, always playing...lol For a long time though I was working with the Swami at the original Bass Place here in town.

Thanks all for the comments so far. Following closely.

I'll give WellStrung a call today too but was poking around their site and they have a 1960 Jazz which seems to have the exact same two things that are raising question marks on my side -- the wrinkled decal and the slightly darker nitro on the neck itself compared to the back of the headstock. Can't say it didn't go through a similar overspray story in its past but would be a bit unusual

Plot thickens... here's a photo of another '60 that Francesco Balossino has (serial number close to yours - 54685) and there's something a bit similar, though somewhat different, with the decal. Makes me think there may have been an issue with that first batch of decals (there were issues with some other batches - '58 Strat decals had a tendency to flake off, etc). I had a couple '60 Jazz Basses and don't recall this - but it was so long ago I could have forgotten or overlooked that specific detail:

His has a body only refin in that same characteristic 1960 wide burst and simulating how most of the red faded away. The tort guard (original) on his looks more typical of most of the very early Js I've seen where they tended to be lighter than the slightly later ones:
