ACG Finished Work.

Hi
Sub 6 lbs might be a struggle. I am very reluctant to guarantee a final out come weight it is to difficult to predict at the start of a build. As to what it sounds like I would have to have more info on the build to come to even a generalisation in that respect. I build versatile basses as a rule using the filter pre-amps so they cover a lot of sonic ground.

OK....then 6 to 6.5 lbs at the most....would that still be possible, possibly chambered? As for tone, as long they're versatile and cover lots of sonic ground that sounds especially fine to me....I know that the weigh situation is asking a lot but I have a really bad back and neck problem and can't handle any more weight than that. I would possibly leave the choice of body and/or top woods to you so as to make it light.

thinking of getting a 4 string chambered short scale Salace.......it would have to be 6 lbs or less though.....what does it sound like?

I can't give you an exact example of the spec you're looking at, however having owned a chambered 5 string Finn fretless, you can get an idea of the tone here >>
To my ear, it adds a real depth and woodiness to the tone.
and for the short scale thing, I have a 6 string Salace E Type >>
The shorter scale REALLY adds weight and certain sweetness to the upper register, and with a properly designed and made custom bass, like an ACG, the shorter scale has no negative impact on the lower register.

As always, apologies for the playing on the samples, I don't get out much...

Hope that helps!

I have built basses around the 7lb mark so it might be possible to get down to there you would however have a very limited palette of woods to choose from.

Yes, I quite understand that.....I have one short scale headless with ash body and maple top (chambered) that is 6.2 lbs....also have another with headstock that is also chambered with mahogany body and myrtle top that is 6.5 lbs and another that is 6.3 lbs with very light swamp ash body...all 3 are custom builds. So I know the options are limited.

Happy to help!
Just from a personal note, I've had a fair few custom and high end basses over the years and have been lucky enough to try a way load more too.
ACGs are up there with the best of them, and certainly for me, are the best basses out there. I can't see me owning any other brand of bass ever again!

Cheers,
Eude

Thanks Alan.....I think I will.....give me some time to figure out exactly what I want (hardware and stuff) and once I have a concrete plan I'll give you a call.....

@loopee its too bad we didn't connect when I was in Vancouver last, you could have seen and tried my 7.7lb Harlot. I've also got shoulder and back problems, and this bass is absolutely perfect.

I can't say enough good things about Alan. You will absolutely not regret going with him for a build, and I guarantee you that the bass will be a "keeper". I'm forever ruined since getting my Harlot, I'll never be able to play anything but ACGs for the rest of my playing existence. :)

yeah, I've been thinking of getting an ACG for a while now but since I already have 3 custom basses I thought I was gassing too much for another one and I can only play one at a time...lol....but my #1 is my first custom made bass (still), the other 2 still haven't replaced it. It's headless and active and just fantastic so I keep thinking, do I really need another? Of course I do......lol

Yeah, headless.....you wanted to try the ThunderTots and brought your Fodera (which I'd never seen one in person...cool bass but too many strings for my little hands)...so never thought of bringing mine out since Ronda was interested in guitars....and of course, I never took my favorite Parker Nitefly out either....lol
