Active/Passive switch for Artec SE-3

Finally got together my very own Frankenstein bass, with the Artec SE3 at its centre!

This is the circuit that I used (the rounded oblong at the top is actually a Telecaster-type control plate with an extra hole drilled in it. The dots top left form a standard 5-way guitar switch. The volume pot is B250k, and the preset pot is also 250k. The knob with the line next to it is the Artec SE3 main circuit board. I've not used the volume control supplied with it, nor the mixer.

The other cover is made from plywood, and was blended in to match a cutout I made in what was a jazz bass. I used small Molex connectors so that I could work away from the bass when soldering. This is what the bass looks like. Just waiting for some toggle switch covers to arrive from China! The pickups are cheap ones, "Powered by LACE".

My earlier attempt at this resulted in a fair amount of hum from the Bridge pickup. I have lined the pickup cover with copper tape and connected it to the main cutout's lining, which has reduced it to the point where it's no longer intrusive. There's no hum at all from the Neck pickup.

Positions 1 and 5 on the input switch play the Neck pickup.
Position 3 plays the Bridge pickup.
Positions 2 and 4 mix them, one in phase, one out of phase. Nice sound variations.

The preset pot adds extra resistance in series with the volume pot. This gives me a switch where I can quickly boost/cut sound by a fixed amount, useful for a small lift during guitar solos in some songs.

The Active/Passive switch gives a change in presence and an escape route if I lose a battery on stage.

The body of the bass was once a Sunburst cheapo "Harley Benton" jazz copy. The neck warped and the truss rod was jammed. I bought a new neck, but then decided to go the whole hog and recut and paint the body. There are a few things I could have done better, but I think it sounds great in my living room.

For a final touch, I've added both thumb and finger rests!

Hi.
I bought this equalizer for my bass, I want to install it with the possibility of using it in passive. I have seen the two ways of installing it that collibosher suggests, what differences in the result are there from post 15 to 16? Thank you very much for your help.

Hi, Wanted to say thanks for all the information here. I succesfully managed to use the Artec Se3 to replace an onboard preamp on a Cort Gb75. I used the corrected diagrams with the active passive switches and was able to keep some of the original pots. (Active/passive push pull Volume 25K, PU blend 500K, stacked bass/treble 2x100k, Humbucker split coils switch) Only the mid boost switch got replaced by a Mid boost/cut pot. All works fine and sound is great. Thanks to Collibosher, line6, talkbass

Can anyone tell me If It's possible to use the Artec SE 3 without the blend control? ie Volume, mid, bass and treble?
I want to use it on a musicman copy with just the single MM pickup so won't need the blend.

Hello everyone, I am bringing up the subject ....
Do you think this diagram is correct?
And will the passive work without a battery?
A big thank you for those who can answer me.

Should be able to wire directly to the holes in the pcb marked 'in' and just use the blend for another project
