Ampeg B100R

I found an Ampeg B100R in a pawn shop today. No price, dirty and the transformer is slightly rusty. Everything works on it, tje gain is pretty scratchy, but I'm sure deoxit can take care of that. The price they quoted me was about half the price that I have seen them sell for. This made me almost take it, but the person said that it was a final sale, common at a pawn shop. But it made me weary, even though it could just be old stock that they need to move.

I'm considering going back tomorrow and letting it sit and burn for about 20-30 mins to see if it acts up. Can anyone that knows these amps give me ideas of what else to look for on this amp that would hint at a problem?
Great bass amps, solid tone, solid cab. I use one with my blues band exclusively, and a B50r (12" speaker) in my studio.

I bought a B100R just before lockdown at a pawn shop for CAD$250 (about USD$195). The only issue was the thread was coming off the handle. It sounded great, I couldn't justify taking it to rehearsal (once we were able to do that in the fall) due to the weight versus my MarkBass CMD121P. I sold it plus a Squier CV P bass for CAD$800, and made about $100 or so.

Currently using a PF500 and an 4 Ohm Avatar 212, which IMO sounds even better, is definitely louder, and has more options for switching cabs etc.

I could see just keeping the B100R for at home use, but with the PF500, the CMD121P, several good OD pedals, it just made more sense to sell it and reclaim the floor real estate.

Now we just need to re-flatten the second wave so we can get back to band rehearsals and start booking some gigs.

I’ve been thinking about selling my B-100R, in fact have it listed on Reverb. But now with all this talk about them, it makes me think I should keep it or ask for more money. It is a great sounding little amp for sure, but at 72 years old, flinging that 65 lb. cab in and out of my car is no small feat so I bought some lighter weight Aguilar stuff.

Mixed opinions and problems with the B100r

But it was a very simple 2 mid type EQ, pretty gutless 100 watt amp.

Has a pretty nice combination of speaker and amp grind if you really push it.
I would pick one up in a heartbeat. Pretty fun amp

The worst thing about the B100R is that they are heavy. Don't expect it to go extremely loud. Sometimes the cardboard port tubes fall off. Some of them make a "pop" sound when you turn the power switch off. It's normal, don't worry about it. I think the vital electronic devices aside from standard resistors, capacitors, diodes, switches etc, that make it work are not obsolete yet, so they should be repairable if something goes wrong. They were made in the USA for a while, and then they were made in China. I have one of each, and don't think there is any difference.

The good thing about them is that they sound really good for a low cost solid state combo amp. There are a few TB members who like me own two of them. That should say something about what owners think about them.

Where I live, they go for about $300.00.

I think if you buy it, you will like it.
Are there any cosmetic differences between your usa and China b100r. I know early Usa Had the really blue face logo. But it’s seems they switched to chrome at some time but I’ve seen supposed USA made models alos with the chrome. A majority of ones I’ve seen also have the “made in the USA” under the knobs. Does your China model say made in the USA? Or is it safe to assume if it says made in the USA it was indeed constructed there?
