Ampeg V4B or compact solid state amp?

This never used to be a thing until the rise of the internet and the grunge movement. Sure, some folks did crank their tube amps hard, but most of us didn't. The SVT's sole purpose of being invented was to get lots of clean tube power. Everett Hull, who started Ampeg, hated rock and roll and couldn't believe that distortion was being made into a selling point. And then musicians came along and shot that to hell :D[/QUOT
That much? I haven't owned one since 1977, so I don't really remember, I guess.
True, for sure. But, if you want a good sound and need light weight, they are both worthy.
I honestly cannot think of a better value, new all-tube head that is on the market today than the V4B. In terms of bang per buck/per weight/per tone the V4B kills it in the 100 watt range available IMO. I have owned or played many of the current 100 watt tube heads so that is an opinion based on experience. I am getting to the age (unfortunately) where weight is becoming a more significant factor but a 41 pound V4B is still no problem. Plugged into an efficient 410 it stays clean and is plenty loud enough for most of my purposes. And we are not a quiet band:D.

Were it not for the weigh, I would be playing a V4B. In 1976, I was sporting a V4B and a 8x10

The original V4B was one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned (and I've owned plenty).
I prefer clean, un-distorted tone and 100 watts with a 2x15 was not enough clean headroom with a rock band for me.
