Double Bass Any one using the NS Design End Pin Stand?

Been playing my CR5M on the tripod so far. Been reluctant to flesh out the money for the endpin arrangement because it looks somewhat strange.
Has anyone ever seen an endpin like the one NS Design makes for the cello? Not for the knee rests necessarily, but with the upper bout and a similar double bass support point?
I've tried that cello stand, both on a cello and a bass. It works perfectly for cello, and I'd highly recommend it. Obviously it's too small for a bass, but I wish they had a version for us. As a more classical player, I prefer to sit on a stool when using a bow. Unfortunately, the endpin stand OP is asking about doesn't really work for that, and the tripod can't move with you as you play.

I've actually talked to Ned Steinberger once about this, and he was very curious about the idea. However, his sense seemed to be that the system I'm asking for would only be useful to a very small number of people and it probably wasn't worth the investment in R&D that it would take to produce. Was still a very interesting and friendly conversation, and maybe if they get more inquiries in that direction they could be motivated to build a prototype.

I use one with my NS NXT and it works pretty well. It does take a bit to get it dialed in. Getting the angle of the body rest set just right took some work but all in all it does what it's supposed to do! The only issue I have is what to do when I'm between sets. I hate to lay it on the ground...
Ah - that's easy. I got from Amazon a portable umbrella stand that works for that.

Yes, but that's >$100 more. Some of us are starving musicians ;)

It would be cheaper to get the NS end pin stand conversion kit for $85

Well, it would - if you have the CR bass (or have upgraded to the CR-grade tripod stand.) The conversion kit ONLY works on that stand, and is not compatible with the lighter-weight Tripod that comes with the NXT or WAV series basses.

So, if you have an NXT or WAV, you need the Endpin, the Conversion Kit, AND the CR Tripod - so now you've spent close to $500.

I just had a prototype built for sitting on a stool. It was designed by a local luthier, Thomas van der Heyd, using the original end pin stand as a basis. He also planed the fingerboard, cut down the nut, and added a nice thumb stop for the heel. I need to test it out more, but so far it feels great and way more natural for my playing style.

Can we see a picture of the thumb stop?

Can you send a picture of your design with measurements? I would love to attempt to replicate something like this, it’s beautiful!! Thank you!

Just got the endpin stand and conversion kit, and I can't seem to figure out how to get the bottom plastic piece to fit into the CR tripod and stay there securely, is there a trick to it that I'm missing? lol

Edit: I think I finally got it, but I feel like it makes the tripod feel less stable, and I also am not sure if I'm a fan of the body rest part. The one on mine was installed on the left side so I flipped it around, and I can't get it to feel right so far. We'll see!
