Any reviews on the Joe Hubbard Bas Videos Website

Joe Hubbard's lessons are truly amazing and exceeded all my expectations! His approach of teaching is completely unique and very efficient. His lessons force me to practice for 5-7 hours a day. For the last 8 month of study with Mr. Hubbard i have had more progress and musical growth more than in previous 5 years! Great stuff, i sincerely recommend to check out, it worth every penny!

Thank you very much Mr.Hubbard!

Hi to all,

I met Joe Hubbard in 1987 having classes with him at the famous Bass Center in Wapping (London) in one-to-one basis. Many times thinking about those past times I have the impression of taking classes from the Xerox copy machine because of the work load he gave to me!!!!

Since them I have always remember his unique musical approach.
After all this years I am here again, into his subscribed online classes with the same sense of quality from him. The quality of whatever his musical descriptions are awesome, most of them with a big common sense, something easy to understand but extremely difficult to implement being a music teacher.

Hope to keep up his expectations

Thanks Joe!

Joe's 'Bassment' is certainly the most intense and deeply informative online stuff I've come across. It's also the most challenging. I think the 5-7 hrs/day estimate isn't far off. I can't keep up with that, and expect it will take me several years to work through it all. But I'll keep at it because it's giving me a much deeper musical understanding and ability. Joe has a well developed pedagogy. The lessons build logically from both a theoretical and technical perspective. Highly recommended.

Joe Hubbard is a musical genius if you interested in learning to play the bass properly and having the ultimate knowledge concerning the bass guitar the Joe Hubbard on line video lessons are the way to go. You will learn to be a musician and a bass player. Joe’s video teaches theory and technical knowledge that is truly challenging.

Indeed very challenging!

Well, Joe is an excellent teacher and I've been studying with him a while now.his website is one of the best I have found and is absolutely amazing if you are serious about becoming a better musician. It's very well structured , specially if you will have access the basement section for a weekly study plan (which should keep you busy ) , in his videos he explains everything to the smallest detail as if you are in a one to one lesson. His method is very efficient and helped a lot in my playing. THANK YOU JOE ! I highly recommend the website :)

Hi Gaston

There is a definitive difference between the two in as much as the Lesson Lounge is comprised of a series of one-off lessons (31 lessons online so far) revolving around melody, harmony, technique, theory, rhythm, improvisation and repertoire. There is also a transcription section on the Lesson Lounge as well. The Bassment is made up of eight 6-lesson modules (48 lessons) which work in-concert with a definitive progression from one lesson to the next. These 48 lessons are to be completed within the first year and you can view them with me demonstrating on either a 4-string or a 5-string bass. After that students can join my Further Bass Education Program which involves more advanced material. The site also includes a feedback forum where I answer questions on a weekly basis.

Hope that helps!

Best

Joe

They are comparable in terms of the style in which Joe presents the lessons.

However, the lessons in the Bassment tend to be longer and come in blocks of 6 week courses so that the topics are developed in greater detail and linked to theoretical concepts (e.g. Poly-Rhythms, Functional Harmony) that are explored over a couple of weeks.

I guess it depends what your after in terms of instruction and how much time you can invest. I have access to both but spend most of the time practising the material form the courses. They suit my personal learning style better and just work for me.

Joe is an excellent, experienced educator (apart from being a top notch player) and it shows in the materials he puts out there imo.

I like the presentation and attitude that Mr. Hubbard exudes in his free video lessons, but from the earlier reviews, it seems I cannot devote as much time as necessary to really go through the course program adequately, even though I would normally prefer that learning avenue.
I guess I will try the lounge for a couple of months to see what kind of material is tackled, and once get this damned master/doctoral thesis in the university behind me, the proper course will come in handy to refresh my musical urges :)

Not sure how representative the 5-7 hours practise a day someone quoted earlier are. I would not let this scare me off.

Don't get me wrong - digesting the material and doing the exercises takes time which you might not have with a PhD program on your hands. Hence the lesson lounge might well be the way to go in your situation.

That said if I can devote 5-7 hours a week to focused practise its been a great week and I still consider taking the courses worthwhile due to getting good results in terms of my playing. YMMV....All the best for your studies!

I just wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to all you guys who have posted here and so pleased you are getting so much out of these lessons!

Gaston, if I could just add that practice isn't so much about the amount of hours, but more important that it is every day. Every day means every day! If you can do that then your playing will go through the roof. Hope to see you on the other side!

All the Bass!

Joe

I have just received the first 2 lessons and they are in line with what I have learnt in the past.

What is missing I think is an introductory video that explains what the final objective is, what the lessons are and how they will fit together. I believe that is important.

Thanks for the info, this definitely has me itching, even though it is a bit pricey from my country. I guess with my background in bass, the bassment might not be that horribly hard to wrap my head and hands around :)

Now I just need to sort my schedule and finances.

I am going to sign up as soon as I get the money. It will be an awesome birthday present!!! I first thought it read 5-7 hours per DAY! That might stress me out. 5-7 hours a WEEK... no problem! That's an hour every day. I can do that and will love every minute of it. Thanks for all the reviews.

In spite of the fact that I have been playing bass for 30 years, I still take lessons every few years to continually improve as a hobbyist, but serious, musician. However, with moving to a new state last year and unaware of who the good bass instructors are in my new area, in addition to a busy work schedule, I decided to give the online option a try and signed up for a premium membership at Joe Hubbard's site.

It is too early for me to give a proper full evaluation, as I have only been a member for a week, but what I can state is that the lessons I have received and viewed, in "The Lesson Lounge" and "The Bassment" sections, are very well explained and are a good supplement to my regular bass studies.

I just signed up abut a week ago as well. I've already checked out a many of the lessons in the "Lesson Lounge" which you can view at any time. There are only about 50 lessons plus a number of transcription which was at first a bit disappointing but when I got into them I quickly realized the quality of the material. This is not a run of the mill duplication of stuff easily available via YouTube. This is hard hitting quality material for the serious electric bass player. Keep them coming!

I also received the first of 48 weekly lessons in the "Basement Lounge". Awesome!!! Time will tell but Joe's PentaPosition fret board familiarity system is revolutionary!!! The closest I've seen to this is Jeff Berlin at the Player's School of Music but this is even better! I've had something like this in back of my head for years since studying Joe Pass CAGED system but was too lazy to develop it. Joe has done it! This is not the same as CAGED at all but I always wondered if something similar could be applied to the bass. A system of memorizing and intuitively getting around the fret board in overlapping positions. I've got some serious practicing to do but I feel really focused now after a few years of slogging along in the mud.

I already feel I have my money's worth just with the Lesson Lounge and the first weekly Basement Lounge lesson.

Keep 'em coming! I'm ready! I'm practicing 2 to 3 hours a day now!

PS. Also check out Joe's material on self defence. Joe is an amazing guy of many talents.
