Any reviews on the Joe Hubbard Bas Videos Website

Do you happen to know what the Lifetime Membership costs approximately? I find the comments on fingering interesting because technique is such a critical part of playing. Is it discussed much at all in the two year course?
I bought the lifetime (at the wrong time) because it went on sale in the August time frame (50% off). That being said I have no regrets at all. Quality material that progresses week to week. I have noticed a huge improvement in my playing and knowledge regarding music. It worth it... his books are great as well.

Missed the first part...I believe the cost of the lifetime is on the website.

No worries Rick! I appreciate your input. I did see the price on the site being around $1K USD but was wondering if the folks that got it at 50% were really at $500. It seems like the prices might fluctuate a bit, but that might just be my perception from the current site.

thinking about purchasing the 2 year plan everyone still happy about that experience???
Zootsuitbass,
I am just starting my second year. Each week I receive a video and accompanying materials to practice. Each week builds upon the previous, so sticking with the program is advised. For me, at my level it is very good. It has been hard for me to keep up with the pace that Joe lays out , but I attribute that to me not putting enough time into it. That being said, my playing has improved greatly, my knowledge of theory, and reading as well. I like Joe’s style...he gets to the point, you know what you need to practice without a lot of fluff. If you listen carefully and do what he tells you to do I can’t see how anyone would not benefit. The course is very Jazz focused, not technique or other genres, and it is not the cheapest in town. I guess it depends on where you are and what you are looking to accomplish. Works for me. Good luck!

@Rick Penrose Thanks again for your feedback Rick! Out of curiosity does it appear that the mastery course goes through some of the subject matter from his books? I’m wondering if some of the same, or at least similar, material is included.

Eric,
I actually emailed Joe that question. He replied that the material in his books compliment his course material. I also have several of Joe’s books and would agree. The real benefit I see in his course is how the material is sequence and delivered each week. Server all times during the course Joe will jump back server alert lessons to make a connection, which usually causes a light bulb to turn on. I find that valuable and difficult to pull from a book by itself. Hopes this helps.

I agree. The books are great supplements to the 2yr course, but in no way are they a substitute. I finished Joe's Bass Mastery course a couple of years ago, but continually go back over the courses to review and internalize. There is so much information contained inside it's not a once and done course (IMO), rather as Joe would say, repeat, repeat, repeat.

I find when reviewing the different courses from Bass Mastery I might only have to spend two days on a lesson whereas I originally spent a week on it the first go around. And that's doing everything in all 12 keys. By continually reviewing, the concepts get more internalized and fluent much quicker since the brain has already been exposed to the material. Also, I've found my ear and musical senses have improved by leaps having diligently worked my way through the course. Definitely get a lifetime membership. It's so worth the $$$.

Not sure how much the lifetime membership costs these days, but the course is worth whatever he charges. It is very well thought out and organized. Again, he doesn't
spend too much time explaining the fingerings, but you will have that pretty much all figured out after the first year. It really is a wonderful course for getting to know your fretboard 100% and also it gives you a deep harmonic knowledge. As far as other aspects of technique, no, this course isn't really for that. This is a good course for understanding where you are on the fretboard and the harmonic knowledge that goes with it. Hope this helps.

Hi fellows.nDo you guys know if Joe Hubbard offers some sort of money back guarantee on his courses or a short term commitment subscription?
I found out the existence of his course today. There are good reviews out there, and I would love to take a course as he promisses and invest time on that. But the investment is not small, and wouldn't be the first course out there pricey and not worth it. I've already enrolled in several courses (even from world class payers) which ended up being bad, for several reasons... Disorganized content, concepts poorly explained, too long and boring videos (I want to spend time practing, not watchin hours long videos). But I couldn't find even samples of the classes.
Cheers

Joe's courses are the best on-line instruction IMO. I've tried other sites too. If you watch several of his free YouTube videos you'll have a pretty good representation of Joe's no nonsense/no filler teaching style which is the same as his paid content.

Thanks Minus, I usually avoid watching YT lessons, I will check his content, thanks again!

Which course did you purchase and what are your thoughts so far?

I've got the 2-year mastery course. I can't do a proper review, because I received the second lesson today,
but there are some interesting things I think it's worth to mention:

The course seems to be divided between several 'mini-courses'. When I read the course description here:
Joe Hubbard Bass Video Lessons |
I thought Joe was just giving an overview on the content of the 2-years course, but that seems to be exactly the 'mini-courses' contained within the whole 2-years course.
The very first of these 'mini-courses', which I started to receive lessons from, is the 'Penta-Positional Chord Studies" (also described in the link above).

The content Joe explains in this specific 'mini-course' is, in a nutshell, how to play arpeggios of a specific chord, along the whole fingerboard, starting from different chord tones (aka chord inversions). So far, I only received 2 lessons, comprising minor 7th and dominant 7th chords, so, I suppose the following lessons will cover the same concept on major 7th, m7b5, etc (likely augmented and minMajor7th).
So, the concept per se is nothing new for me (what does not demerit the content), and many other courses involving chord tones also cover the same content.

What caught my attention by now is how Joe manages to explain the concept, without spinning around the same crap over and over, making both videos (past week and this week) under 20 minutes.
This is specially important to me, because I don't want to spend my limited practice time watching videos (nobody improves watching videos :), so, after watching his 20minutes lesson past week, I've had *a lot* to practice during the whole week, so I spent the rest of my week practicing instead of watching more and more videos (comparing with other courses I've acquired, with have like 8 hours of videos explaining the same concept Joe explained in 20 minutes).
Also, he releases one lesson per week, for me it works well, as I am not being overwhelmed with material to practice.

Another thing I liked is that Joe teaches the same content for 4 and 5 string basses (I play 5 strings), yeah, the content can be adapted from 4 to 5 or to 6 strings, but having it being taught in 5 strings, cut me some time adapting the exercises.

The videos though are old, the edition isn't that good either, so I think an update on the videos is welcomed, specially the parts where he demonstrate how to practice the concepts, that could be better IMHO.
I'm still making up my mind on the content available in the 'Lesson lounge' (a bunch of video lessons not directly linked with the course, which you can access at any time), so far I didn't have time to look through its content).

I think the whole price is worth only if you are actually willing to put effort in practicing the material, the concepts are not 'easy' to digest, there are no silver bullets, no hacks, no shortcuts, just pure quality material, and you'll need to put time and effort in practicing the concepts. If you are willing to do so, I think it's a good investment, if not, it's money wasted. I committed myself to follow the program, let's see where I'll be in 2 years. With the 40% off price though, I think it's a must have course.

Hope it helps,
Cheers.

Thanks for that; it definitely helps and is much appreciated. I've retired recently so have the time to dedicate to putting in the work but it is the cost that is a concern. The 40% is off the lifetime subscription only .. the 2 year course isn't on discount. I'll have a think!

Thanks again.
