Anybody use an FDeck HPF with electric?

As has been mentioned, one of the very strong points of the Fdeck is that the corner frequency is continuously adjustable from 35 to 140 Hz.

Mine is always on to tighten up the very low-end.

I purchased mine (Series 3) approximately 1 1/2 years ago and have been kicking myself that I didn't purchase one years before that.

I have a series 3. I like it because there is no sense having your amp work at amplifying those power hungry low frequencies that your cabinet can't produce anyway (depending on your cabinet of course.) Rolling the frequency knob up a bit more also starts clearing up your sound making it clearer. I use the vol. full up as I believe that puts you at unity gain.

Series 3 with electric. Volume is unity gain at max. I keep it at 35hz. Makes a huge difference in speaker excursion with no effect on tone.

I only play electric and I set my Series 3 just like Stu does. It's the only 'box' between my bass and amp. :) Neither of my all-tube amps have any built-in HPF and I don't want to waste energy amplifying subsonic mud or over-excurse my speakers! One thing to be aware of with this fine piece of kit is that it is activated when a cord is plugged into the "out" jack, not the "in". I learned this after completely draining the battery once. :laugh:

That's so you can leave it attached to an upright bass's tailpiece with the pickup plugged in, remove the cable to the amp, and not drain the battery. Very smart IMO.:D

This occurred to me after I drained the battery. :laugh: I agree that it is intelligent design for use with uprights. Being that every other 'box' used with electrics is activated by a plug in the input jack, it was counter-intuitive for me!

Another happy FDeck series 3 user. Volume always full, and the cutoff is adjusted for the room or cab. With the Goliath Sr. I can go pretty high before affecting the tone. The speakers are way happier these days.

Also, Francis Deck is an incredible person to deal with. He is gracious and stands behind his work 110%. As someone earlier in the thread said, I wish I had bought one years earlier.

Ill be buying soon. I have been meaning to but making do with my Harrison PFMOD for now.
I had made an "ease off on the Gas" resolution too but this can be slotted in as an exception.

I took delivery Friday of my Fdeck just in time to play two bands in two very different venues.
The hpf did the following;
Really cleaned up my low end. I play a p with flats normally and have struggled with clarity. I ran the thing at what I would estimate 60hz ish for the first gig, a smallish rock club, and slightly higher for the second, country, a big live room. Bingo hall, seriously. Someone sat in for a few tunes at the smaller club and I had the opportunity to evaluate out front. I would describe the tone as very full, very smooth. I have a happy. I ran on stage and into house at the bigger place and was able to really get a cleaner sound out front. More happy.
It made me for some reason reduce volume at the amp. Wierd. Maybe someone could offer an opinion on that.
I, on a couple of tunes, like to use an octaver but have not because of the uber lows it produces. Sounds good now.

I run a Mesa 800 and GK212. Happy before, very happy now. I ran Bass>HPF>ZOOM>AMP. Is that optimal? I'm thinking of ZOOM>HPF in case the effects introduce some sub stuff from somewhere.

Good little box.
