Anyone drive for Uber or Lyft?

It isn’t double coverage. It’s much better coverage for you the driver during Period One. Also it’s full disclosure to your personal insurer as to what you’re doing.

If you have this coverage and get in an accident during Period One, your policy rules.

If you don’t have this coverage and there’s an accident during Period One, the Uber/Lyft policy rules. But the liability limits are very low.
It's odd that it works like that, if that's how it works. Someone must be in charge of checking up on anyone claiming on the Uber/Lyft Period 1 policy.

Uber & Lyft have the driver’s personal insurance coverage info. In the case of an “incident” during Period One, I’m sure they’ll contact the driver’s personal insurer to see if the driver has this optional coverage. If yes, the claim goes to the driver’s insurer. If no, the Uber/Lyft limited policy is in effect.

Hopefully I’ll never find out. ;)

The vast majority of drivers don’t have this optional coverage. I read 60% somewhere (I bet it’s actually higher). Those drivers either have not done their homework on the liability issue, or they have minimal personal assets at risk if they lose a big lawsuit. If you don’t have much, you don’t have much to lose.

So I get the new Allstate policy including the endorsements etc. There isn’t a single word in it anywhere about Rideshare coverage. In fact there are several paragraphs stating that using the vehicle to transport passengers for hire is EXCLUDED from coverage.

I email the agent. He says don’t worry you’re covered. Not good enough.

I call the agent and request something official saying I’m covered for Ridesharing. He’s talking to the home office.

Insurance issue resolved. I’m 100% golden! Lol.

This ride was 20 minutes from accepting the hail, to drop off. Got stuck in rush hour traffic which doubled the normal time.

EDIT: Passenger tipped $1 so I got $5.99.
