Do you guys prefer to rumble bass only or have the entire mix coming through?

My G2 is arriving today

I prefer just bass. I've tried just kick or whole mix a few times and it's not for me. It ends up feeling confusing and messy to me. It might be partially a matter of what you get used to though.

I haven't tried an actual live mix coming through, but compared to practicing with an MP3 with the backbeat, I far prefer it with just bass. It gives more of that "huge stack standing behind me" vibe.

Is there some kind of pocket or holder that can be attached to the strap I stead of using the clip?
The clip is pretty darn heavy duty. I mean, I haven't used it much and don't run around when I do. But I'd be hard pressed to see it falling off. That being said, it's more comfortable for me on my wider straps. When I use it on my narrower (2") strap, I feel like the metal of the back of the clip is digging into my back for some reason. I'm not sure why that would be different on the different straps.

I play at church, if that matters.

I have tried setting mine up different ways.
  • I have run the bass through the Backbeat, to my pedals, and out to the house, but I didn't like that because I wanted the Kick Drum in my Backbeat.
  • I have run the entire IEM mix through it and plugged my earphones into it. That works ok, but it worked better with the G1 than the G2. With the G1, I could rotate my strap so the G1 was on top of my shoulder and quickly adjust both the earphone output and the rumble. With the G2 and no app, that isn't easy to quickly change.
  • The easiest is what I have now.
Right now, I have Bass--> HX Stomp-->DI-->Main Board.
From P16... Two outs, One to my earphones and a second to my Volume pedal and then on to the Backbeat. (cheap wireless)

My bass connection and earphones are with a custom cable that has both signals, so that is a wired connection.
This sounds like a good setup - do you mind me asking what custom cable you use?

What about latency when sending the full mix from the digital board?

There is a guy here on talkbass that makes custom cables. @ExaltBass

He makes all kinds of cables and can dial in a custom cable just for you. Top knotch stuff.

Dave is great to work with, he uses top notch components and usually has a quick turn around time.

Here is a diagram of the first cable that I had him make back in 2019:

This is the cable he made up:

When I got my G1 Backbeat, I wanted a short cable to connect into this one. I sent him a diagram:

Dave is a Backbeat user and makes up different cables depending on usage:
