Bad Ideas and Random Projects

Bad idea. I am taking a three part Mozart piece and transposing each part for bass. I will then play, record and mix the parts. Wish me luck?

Yeah. So, I decided to paint the grille on my Seismic 2x10 to make it look like rust. It looks rustier in person. It's actually a dusting of copper spray paint.
It is still powered by a solid state Brother printer, of course.

Oh, and while I had the grille off and the paint was drying, I played with stuffing wool socks into the ports. I thought it would magically make a "tighter" sound, but it did not. I thought it sounded like crap. The ports will remain open.

Some people have too much time on their hands....:rollno::laugh:

I am eyeing one of those $60 DIY P-bass kits on E-bay. What else am I going to do? Go to the gym? Do the dishes in the sink? Mow the lawn? Read a book? No.
I was considering one of those during this past winter to give me something constructive to do during those cold, dark days.....

Then I remembered that I have all of the DIY prowess of a three legged pig on meths and decided to save my 60 bucks....:rollno:

Sounds like entertainment to me. You can barely take two people out to see a movie for $60 these days. Might as well let them watch you fumble around building a bass.

I've got a Hartke 410XL i can't use because it's too heavy so i've been thinking about gutting it and mounting everything in a 55 gallon drum. Should i insure it's sealed completely or should i remove the bunghole plug? Also, i'd like more mid range out of it so i'm thinking about painting it red as i've heard red improves mid range response.

No. Red for bass, yellow for midrange, blue for treble.

The barrel will be easier to transport because you can just roll it around. Brilliant!
I would go with a natural finish, for more of an uncolored sound.

I am taking inspiration from my own post in this thread:

Is there a fretless BG with a sharp enough bridge radius for arco?

I want to build a bass guitar that I can play with a bow. Starting with one of those $60 kits seems like the best way, as mistakes will surely be made. It will take some woodworking. I may remove the frets, or maybe not. I know nothing of playing with bows, except that I now want to do it.

Brilliantly bad ideas that ended badly-er.
1) Let's start a band with just guys that work at the same place
2) Let's start a band specializing in Love Songs from the 70's
3) Let's hire that drummer who has no shoes and has to park his truck where he can pull forward
because it has no reverse.
4) Let's definitely take that 8am slot at the outdoor festivals in the dead of winter.
5) Let's just leave our gear here, the guy said it's safe.

I played a Squire Fretless Jazz bass and really really liked the fretless Ebonol neck. The fretless experience opened up a whole new world of bass. But I returned the bass after 2 weeks as the thin slim neck was too small for my hands. For the past 6 months, I've been looking at my BB424x, wanting to convert it to fretless. But can't put myself to doing it, because I need it for recording. The Squire Fretless Precision bass is looking might tasty. And all this because of that Ebonol fretless neck. What to do? These Squire Fretless with their Ebonol necks are like gate way drugs into the world of fretless.

There was a thread created recently by someone who wanted advice about making a cabinet to house a couple 6X9 inch car stereo speakers for use as a bass guitar speaker cabinet. (Some people actually are encouraging him to do it too). (I suggested that a plastic five gallon bucket would be the ideal enclosure for his project). Maybe you could take a cue from that thread, and add some car speakers to the 55 gallon drum to enhance the mids.
