The pickups are installed, they are like single coils on steroids!
When I favor the neck pickup slightly with the balance knob they bring a nice Miller-esque slap tone.
And when I solo the bridge pickup with a touch of bass and slight mid boost I can come pretty close to that classic Stanley Schooldays tone.
Not bad, not bad at all!

Only drawback is they (obviously) don't cancel noise.

So, I've just installed a Glockenklang 3-band pre-amp and man, this combo is just killer!!!
The transparancy is amazing, this Ibanez SR900 now sounds like a very high end bass. I also gave the Ibanez a frett level job done by a great luthier so now it plays like a dream and sounds like a dream!

And how do you solo neck and bridge with no controls?
