Bass di+preamp or no?

I'm using the hardware unit.
I think the bass amp models were introduced in the expansion pack (with additional guitar amp models). Have a look, definitely worth it. Probably one of the best direct-to-FOH for Ampeg SVT related sound.

If you get the expansion pack, you could run amp-out into your Hartke return effects loop (bypassing the front-end). Me I go XLR direct to powered PA speaker(s) and sub(s).

You can get away with about any DI solution. However, since you have a Fuzz pedal, that will need some work not to be real fizzy. Not all sound guys know how to handle distorted/fuzzy bass.
If you go with a clean DI like the Radial, I would at least get a Broughton Lo + Hi Pass Filter pedal or some sort of parametric EQ or EQ to roll off the highs.

Other than that, yeah a preamp pedal may be helpful, or possibly something like the Tech21 Q Strip which will give you a high pass and low pass filter with solid DI and EQ options.

I perused the Avid website and asked them for help on the expansion pack and all they did was send a link to a page that doesn’t even include the Eleven Rack. I don’t think it’s supported by them anymore. Oh well. Perhaps there is an archive of old software someplace on the web?
