Bass Direct shipping nightmare for Bruce Thomas Profile Bass solar flare finish!

Not a detective, just deal with packaging goods and shipping damage on a daily basis. take that double wall box with a poorly secured instrument inside and drop it flat from 6-7 feet flat on its or back. Do that twice now for good measure.

The poorly secured knob is suddenly coming off and your cheap tuners are comingg undone. now that knob wedges to the saddle and forces it off the bridge. the paint just cracks and comes of. Read the UPS and FedEx package testing procedures, test your strong box and report back.
Over 100 or so basses later, I suppose I was lucky until now.
So, the tuners underneath the bass in a tightly packed gig bag..?? No paint chips anywhere...??
Gremlins...??

Just out of curiosity, how is the Bruce Thomas P bass different from a USA P bass?
Positive spin appreciated. :)

Probably the flatter neck profile but basswood body and ebony fingerboard probably sets it apart from a USA Precision bass.

Now if your a relic person, my bruce thomas bass came with two broken tuners snapped off where as most usa relics stick to paint wear/scratches and tarnished hardware.
Mine was relic'd like it was used for the album cover of "London Calling" by The Clash. :/

I wonder if the package was handled roughly and the tuners took a shot and broke off, and then the parts that broke off were loose in the case and caused the chip in the paint.

Did customs have the bass out of the package, I wonder?

I thought of this but the tuners were underneath the bass at the bottom of the gig bag and no paint chips inside the plastic covering the bass. The chip is on the forearm contour. So, two tuners snap off in a tight bag then bounce off the forearm contour then land outside the plastic bag underneath the bass..? Seems unlikely imo.

That said, I want to believe that bass direct will make this right. If I was a betting man, I'd say a warehouse employee or customs agent (who laid the tuning pegs at the bottom of the gig bag outside the plastic bag).

The way I see it, insurance is for the shipper. You paid money for a brand new, unmarred bass arriving at your door.

You did not receive what was advertised. The seller can take the bass back (or replace it) and they can file a claim on the shipping insurance on their end.

I have seen sellers ship replacement items out same day to take care of a custome, not necessarily waiting for receipt of return item first (though that is normally the case).

Stuff happens, but this is really their opportunity to make it right, not for you to try to figure out what happened and propose a solution.

Did you say the bass was placed in a plastic covering within the gig bag? If so, were the tuners within, or without, of said plastic covering?
Also, another take on the paint damage: could, potentially, the broken off and ruined tuner heads have played a part in said paint damage.
I'm practicing to be an investigator ;)

I know it’s not hassle free but I would return it without hesitation.

If the box wasn’t damaged, it’s obviously a human error when handling it and you don’t have to pay for that.

We are no longer in a pandemic situation where the inventories are low, there’s a lot of offering on the market nowadays so you will find another one within a reasonable time.

That bass had issues before it was packed and shipped to you . There was flaws that were missed , those tuners would have broken when you tried to tune and clearly the bass was packed with that chip . Someone didn't do their job , should not have been shipped........return . :banghead:

I have bought basses and gear from Bass Direct many times over the years. (Always including the needed shipping from UK to Norway) ....I have absolute faith in their shop and their customer service is first class.
I'm sure you will find a better explanation for the damage than sloppy employees or that a damaged bass was purposefully sent to you.
Best of luck and hopefully a good NBD is on the horizon.

This whole situation is my absolute nightmare for buying and shipping across the Atlantic, and why I don’t do it. Sorry this is happening to you, hope it’s resolved well.

In a more positive light I hope that either its replacement or this one itself when repaired sounds as good as the ones I’ve heard demoed. They’re pretty nice sounding P’s.

I‘ve had several transactions with Bass Direct (shipping from the UK to Germany). Not all of these went smoothly, and as you expressed, while communication was usually quick through multiple employees, to me, it often felt rushed and lacking in empathy / concern, especially given the amounts of money involved (custom shop Dingwalls).
However, as stated above, Mark will make things right in the end.
