Or whatever you are celebrating today.

Before you do anything rash; 1) Put the brakes on selling your gear. Buying then selling usually results in a loss unless you really got a deal on used gear. 2) Kick back and think about what you like to listen to and what you like to play. 3) Assess your inventory and decide what you need to do to accommodate item 2. 4) Get back to playing and practicing for yourself. 5) Go forth and groove, rock on or what ever it is you do.
You still sound rather emotional over this (selling your Rumble-must be!). I'd invite to come out to Kalifornia and have a brownie cause their legal now, but I never found them to be particularly good for my brain in the long run. drool Hope next X-mas season is better to you.

I still play every day, but I want to start recording and mixing my songs.
Actually, I might like to get an electric guitar just for recording purposes. I could repurpose my extra 2x10 bass cab as a guitar amp. Thanks for getting me thinking. Now I just need a guitar, and a little guitar amp head that can drive a 4 ohm 2x10.

With a reverb and distortion pedal you may be surprised at how good your bass rig sounds for guitar (low volume recording).

Keep the SR as it is, unless the previous band's initials are really a thorn in your side, then make a custom decal that makes you happy.

Restring your BEAD bass in fifths tuning! CGDA. It's really fun, you keep the four string, but with more range than a EADG bass in both directions!

The Dean's neck needs shimming, so shim it! It's a great beater bass, everyone needs at least one beater bass (though you kinda have three beater basses)

I've never thought of a band initial decal, kind of novel to be honest. That said though, IMO, I'd keep the Hondo and the SX, can't say I've ever even played a Dean, not even sure if I've seen a Dean bass IRL. If I had a perfectly useable bass that I needed or wanted to be rid of, and was functional but not valuable, I'd donate it to somebody or some organization. Maybe there's a school or a church or toy drive for kids. I'm not trying to guilt you, but I've learned recently that these things, while trivial to us, could mean the world to somebody.

I will say though, when it comes to my instruments now, everything fills a niche that the others don't, the active five string has rounds, the four string has flats. They're both fit for different applications.

Now that I am out of that confounded, good for nothing metal band, I am left with two basses that need to be de-band-ified, and one bass that just needs help.

The Dean:
My cheap Dean sounds good and is pretty simple, but the neck needs shimming. Should I just set it on fire, or get a new neck for it? I have no idea. Open to wild ideas here.

I don't have a wild idea for you, but as a bass conservationist, I say take the road to a possible easy fix and adjust the neck and keep on truckin' (borrowed from the 70s). I have the same bass and it is a choice player for an inexpensive ax.

I would gladly donate the Dean and my 2x10 cab to someone who actually needs them.

The Dean really is fine, but the action is a bit high for me. Great for slapping, though.

The problem is finding someone in need, and not someone who will turn around and sell the stuff for crack.

Yep...I had similar concerns when I decided to give some stuff away....

My wife suggested asking at local schools if they needed any bass gear......

The first one that I called were beside themselves with joy at the prospect and were at my house next morning with a van and four eager 'roadies' to help load the van...

I'd just keep the "SR" and tell people it's the signature of master luthier Sattori Ranzo, who made one final bass after a quarter-century of inactivity due to his oath to never again produce a device that plays Metal, created so no one would ever again have to utter the question "What's the best bass for metal?"

A school is a good idea. I remember being instrumentless in high school for a short time. It sucked. Band was the only thing I enjoyed in schoo

1 re logo the SX, you did it once - right?
2 Hondo - get some nut blanks and learn to cut your own. the bridge should still be OK for a normal E string
3 Dean needs a shim? install a shim!

Now THAT'S funny.
