Birthday is coming up...I needs some help

TLDR- Scroll past my vomit of text.

So as I stated in the opener..Bday is coming.
I want a new bass.
Problem is, im not rich nor do I know any people that are...otherwise there would be no need for this post and I would have already bought a 5 string MM.

I have around a 800$ budget. Give or take a 100.
Im looking for that middi-growl that a MM has but in a more affordable package. So says alot of other bass players...yes I know..im just working with what I have guys.

What I am currently looking at is the Schecter stage 5.

Iv only been able to play the four since GC does not have them avalible yet. However Im really liking the tone options. I can get a pretty good mid growl on the bridge pickup with some tone knob work.

Im worried about being able to get a pretty low action on these things...to top it off there are very few youtube reviews of them which also make me think twice.

I tried a mitchell 705...Meh..to me it seemed like the sound was less...focused? Does that make since?
Also the jack was in a weird-ass place. GC special?

I played another 5 string I forgot what. I just remember its selling point was a mid tone toggle switch with 5 positions...wasnt really what I was looking for.

I thought about wormoth...but after creating one on the site the price was 1300+...nope..

Could really use some help.
Also I play metal/progressive.
Current is a ergodyne EDC 705
Ampeg P800
Ashdown mag410T deep.

TLDR(in caveman grunts)
Birthday
want middi growl.
Passive HH with active pre.
5 string.
Around 800.
Helps.

Ibanez ATK is a good option. Also, I have a Schecter Stiletto that has a MM bucker in the typical Jazz Bass bridge pickup location. Solo'd, that pickup gets pretty growly with a little bit of that MM "burp." Action/neck/feel is very Ibanez SR (which I like a lot). I got mine new for $530

Writing this as Im watching people plays these things.

I have not tried the LTDs. Not too bad sounding. I will pick one up and jam it next trip to GC.

ATKs I thought were not made anymore.
Il check them both out on the youtube however.
I must say that ATK sounds pretty good...ugly as hell but it sounds pretty good.
Not sure if im going to be able to get my hands on one to try it out though.

I came accross what I played with the mid toggle...it was a yamaha 305 tbrx. Not a fan of that switch but didnt sound too bad.

Further I found a 505trbx, now that looks good and sounds pretty good I heard that "burp" in that bass as well though not as much but I like the sound of the 505. No toggle switch either.

Any thoughts on the yamaha trbx505? Its cheaper than the schecter and I guess some of the used ATKs. Yet still sounds pretty good to me. Passive active toggle switch.

ATKs are notoriously heavy.
LTD's ESP-Designed pickups are great until you start playing chords.

For my birthday last year I just did a search for pre-owned gear at GC within a 111 mile radius.
I drove to the farthest one out & looked at a SR800, and on the way home I stopped & found my dream bass, a Ibanez Premium.

So, I'd recommend just going to every store in your area, but look online ahead of time.
Check Sam Ash as well, you can check inventory of your nearest store online:

Sorry I was writting that didnt see the other comments about the cv5 and the sub, and the sterling 5.
I tried the sub thats in the store...but I do not belive that was a USA sub.

Yeah Im not going to settle. But at the same time gotta be careful im at the top end of my budget. Il check around for what you suggested as well as what everybody else has said.

Yeah, seems like the Sterling by Music Man 5 strings would be good options to at least try out. The Ray35, new Ray25, or even the Ray5 (SUB). And you could even pump the SUB up with a Nordstrand MM pup and pre-amp and still be under your budget. In any case, happy birthday and happy NBD!

I'd go for an Ibanez ATK. Great basses for the MM sound on a budget (and just overall great basses).

Especially if you can find an older Japanese models, but I believe the new series are good as well
