Birthday is coming up...I needs some help

TLDR- Scroll past my vomit of text.

So as I stated in the opener..Bday is coming.
I want a new bass.
Problem is, im not rich nor do I know any people that are...otherwise there would be no need for this post and I would have already bought a 5 string MM.

I have around a 800$ budget. Give or take a 100.
Im looking for that middi-growl that a MM has but in a more affordable package. So says alot of other bass players...yes I know..im just working with what I have guys.

What I am currently looking at is the Schecter stage 5.

Iv only been able to play the four since GC does not have them avalible yet. However Im really liking the tone options. I can get a pretty good mid growl on the bridge pickup with some tone knob work.

Im worried about being able to get a pretty low action on these things...to top it off there are very few youtube reviews of them which also make me think twice.

I tried a mitchell 705...Meh..to me it seemed like the sound was less...focused? Does that make since?
Also the jack was in a weird-ass place. GC special?

I played another 5 string I forgot what. I just remember its selling point was a mid tone toggle switch with 5 positions...wasnt really what I was looking for.

I thought about wormoth...but after creating one on the site the price was 1300+...nope..

Could really use some help.
Also I play metal/progressive.
Current is a ergodyne EDC 705
Ampeg P800
Ashdown mag410T deep.

Birthday
want middi growl.
Passive HH with active pre.
5 string.
Around 800.
Helps.
I'm an SR5 guy and my backup is a Ibanez ATK305. The last year they made the ATK 5 string I think was last year and it was an ATK815e. It plays and sounds very close to an SR5 and is in your price range new.

The Yamaha TRBX505 is a versatile insrument. You can get lots of different sounds out of it and the ergonomics are great, it's easy to play and a good value for what you get.

Yamaha just released the TRBX600 series, which trade the mahogany body in the 500 series for alder with a flamed maple top. $650 street. They haven't made it to the stores yet but should be arriving soon.

Yamaha TRBX605FM - Matte Amber

Happy birthday and good bass hunting!

Nothing sounds 100% like a Musicman Stingray although some get close. The Sterling Ray 34/35 gets extremely close, but then again they are Sterling by Musicman. I have A/B them before and you would not be able to hear the difference in a band mix. As others have said, you could buy a Musicman Stingray used or if you prefer new, The Sterling Ray 34/35 is an excellent bass. I know, I purchased 2 of them. ;)

That is a very beautiful instrument!

OP, you're going gently used if possible, I hope. Let someone else take the immediate depreciation hit.

+1 on a G&L L2500, you may be able to find a used USA model in that price range, but you’ll have to be diligent. A Tribute would be a perfect fit. In my experience, a StingRay is a one-trick pony, but great at it, where a L2500 is a Swiss Army knife.

Ehh? Are you asking me that? lol

Going to sam ash saturday for a few hours, they have most of what you guys have suggested, plus what I was originally asking about.
Gonna line em up and piss everybody off for awhile. At the very least if I buy nothing il be able to hear them.
Thanks peoples youv been a great help. Il update once I figure it out.

Saturday I played:
A BTB 5, An SR series, it was brown wood tone barts in it. Dont remember the models of them
LTD 5
Music man sting, sterling, and SUB and a bongo for ***** and giggles.
They did not have a used USA sub.
Another schecter 4 stage.
TRBX 305 and 505.

After a hour or two I put away the ibanez basses, the 305, the sub, and the ray.

Spent an hour with the sterling and 505.
Loved them both.
I went with the 505 though. The sterling was great, but the price was kinda high.
The 505 did everything I wanted it to do and I really liked the way it felt when I played it versus the sterling.
The sterling sounded great, but as one poster said I too found that it really only has one tone...a great tone...dont get me wrong.

I leave a sterling 5 on my list to buy later on. I still want one but I liked the 505 overall better even if the string on it were dead as hell. I was able to get some really good tones from it.
Also the cash I have left il put towards a alpha omega. Which I tried with both basses, great little OD box...at a stupid price...but what can you do.

So I put both on the wall and left. Ordered a brand new one from the GC 10min frpm the house in brown, they have a longer return policy.

Thanks for all the advice people.
As I said maybe next year Il get the music man, but for now im happy with what I heard and what I ordered.
