More from the Mwandishi band

I read somewhere that Herbie was experiencing financial difficulties in sustaining the Mwandishi band around this time (Pre-Headhunters , Please correct me if I'm mis-remembering?) - and is it a bit ironic that the Dixieland group is playing "Pennies From Heaven" in the opening seconds of the clip above?
I Am Not A Conspiracy Theorist. (Yet!)
Thanks, Michael Karn.

I just finished the Bob Gluck Mwandishi book I mentioned in another thread, and in talking about the end of the band financial issues are definitely mentioned, but artistic ones are as well. A Google search on the subject also turned up interesting (non Gluck) information on the end of the group. Instead of quoting the book I'm just going to reccomend that anybody who likes Herbie in general and this amazing band in particular get this book, it's worth every penny. Just to hear the cats talk about what the band meant to them, it's inspiring and even moving. This from Jabali Billy Hart -

I never enjoyed music as much, before or since. It was almost a miracle musical experience...You could say it was spiritual, but it was so sensually pleasurable that I dare not put it in the same words. He's an extraordinary musician, even among extraordinary musicians. And that means he's an extraordinary person, too....His genius, to me, is his ability to accompany...Just playing with him on the bandstand makes you feel like he's written a concerto just for you, a drum concerto

Wow

Two more hours with Mwandishi with Buster Williams. The more I listen to him the more I'm tempted to switch icons (yep, I know, another thing that nobody is going to care about) ...

The text says that this bootleg is recorded 1970 in germany. The sound quality is so so (some cables are loosing contact from time to time) ... but the music is great great.
