BX500 Head 2x10 Cab

I've had both the BR210 and BRX 2.10, and the BRX version was better. Better built, better sounding, just better. IMO

Website indicates the BRX are more of a pro grade. A bit heavier too in terms of weight. Not a lot more money if getting a single 2 x 10. But he has his budget and goals. He can add a lot later with the 500 Watt head and it does 2 Ohm, so even if he gets the 4 Ohm 15" he can run another when the money machine works better. Mine slowed down all of a sudden, wife's income cut in half :( We need to continue saving hard. That just means buying goodies at a slower pace...

I had a BX500 combo w/ 15" and the horn. Loved it until I did an outdoor gig. Sold it for the BX 1500 and drive a Jacklite 15 crossed over to a 4x10 open back cab. Great tone, plenty of bandwidth and uber powerful.

I have a BX250. Mine has the toggle switches instead of push buttons but is otherwise the same as whats on the website now. I got mine used, essentially it was brand new. I play it through a BRX 10.4 that I also got used and is essentially brand new. I've also played it through a Peavey 115, but I much prefer the sound of 10's to 15's. Of course, I prefer it with my particular 10's cab to my particular 15 cab.

That being said. I don't understand why people choose the BX500 over the BX600 before or now the BX700, as the price difference is minimal.

Asking if the BRX10.2 is overkill, well I play 250W from the head through the 410 that says 1200w on it. It sounds great at any volume. The combination sounds great with anything i plug into it. Their big selling point is its tuned down to low B. It's not boomy at all, I play it with the tweeter off, except when I first got it to test it out. I'd rather have more balls in my cab than I need for now, maybe forever, than try to be right at the limit or overpower the cabs.

I own the BR210N and the BRX10.2 and the BRX10.2 sounds much better to my ear. As for your head choices, I have a huge problem with the BX500 because it doesn't have a pre/post button on the line out. If you're playing a medium to larger sized gig and they're putting you through the PA you have no control over your tone. That's why I'd go for the BX700, not only is it more modern compared to the BX500 but you get to keep your tone when playing a larger gig.

That's strange because my mb15 with the bx250 head has a pre and post switch for the line out. Is your a newer one? Maybe they stopped putting it in or something.
Edit: you know I just went and checked Carvins site and sure enough there is no pre or post switch for the DI! That's strange that they would include it on the bx250 but not the larger more expensive amp! Thanks for pointing that out! I'm glad I have the combo with the pre post switch!

Yeah, I had started saving up money for the BX500 because I really need to replace my current head (Behringer BVT5500H) but when I saw that there was no pre/post switch I emailed Carvin to see what was up and hoped that I maybe I had just missed it. Their response wasn't exactly helpful but a year or so later they announced the BX700 which did come with the switch so I like I was part of a crowd harassing them about it. If I'm spending money on a head to satisfy my tone chasing then I want the head to work in all situations, not just small gigs.

I say BRX
Nice...!!!

I have the BX500, used with two 1x12 cabs at 4 ohms.
Those of you who use it with two 10.2 cabs, how does the head perform at 2 ohms? The 2-ohm "limited" output of the amp specs are vague and makes me weary if using it at 2.
I feel like I would have more confidence using the BX700 or B1000 amps at 2 ohms...

Or you can buy good used cabs...
I bought a used Avatar 1x12 Neo for like $120 on CL...
I'm sure you can find a BRX 10.2

And...I'm such an idiot I sold the best sounding rig I ever had - a 210 Neo and 1x15....someone else got a great deal on that one while I still kick myself in the a$$...

@BlueMINI Decide what to order yet?
Actually, I'm sitting in front of the computer now with my credit card next to me running the numbers-- again(!)

During the "Dads & Grads" promo they mentioned free vinyl cover for bass cabs... I thought they meant the Tolex vinyl cover, and when I went to place my order for a MB15/15 stack I learned of my error-- the promotion was for a dust cover, not the Tolex covering. Then I was told there would be a 4th of July sale promotion announced tomorrow (i.e. today), so I waited.

Turns out the amps were on a mild discount during the last promo, but not this one. However, the new promo is a savings of $100 on a $500 purchase. So I've been here crunching numbers to see where I could get the most bang for my buck. Without going into specific dollar figures, here is where I'm at:

- MB15/15 stack in Navy Blue Tolex costs only $75 less than a BX500 head (+free foot switch) with the BRX 2.10 cab.

Now I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on the BR500/BRX2.10. Doing so will eat up any money I wanted to set aside for a few sets of new strings, but I've got to prioritize.

Before pulling the trigger I decided to make one more cruz through the TB forums before making the call :)

BTW, I should also note:

Choosing the BX500 over the BX700 came down to a few things which are mainly personal preferences:

- I REALLY don't like the bold red face on the 700
- I like the switches on the 500 (mute/active/passive/EQ bypass) better than push buttons found on the 700
- 500w is more than I'll ever need
- Pre/Post switching feature is a non-issue. When using a PA, the amp will be for stage sound, while my signal to the board will go through a Tech21 VT Bass DI. Besides, no matter what signal the sound-guy receives, they are going to tweak it anyway ;)
- the 700 costs about $50 more, for which I fail to see a useful return on investment

Again 99% of this is all personal preference :D
