Yeah I'm digging the brass pickguard, just need to polish it up a bit.
Good point. I do like the relic look too, especially when it's legit. I may just work on the body a little and of course remove that Fender logo from the headstock. I also have some friends who have a company that customizes guitars to give them that road worn/relic look. I may get together with them on it. There isn't much I would want to change with it, but I want to do something to the body that will juxtapose the pick guard well. Thinking I may just sand it down to lighten the body and bring out the wood grain.Don't you dare. People pay big money for manufactured "relics," and you've just been given a sterling example of mojo all over that thing. Hell, I spent a week trying to age a steel pick guard I dremel cut by hand, I'd kill for something like what you've got.
No, it has a chrome, blank neckplate. No fender logo or anything.Did it have a brass neckplate? The pre serial numbered Charvel's were numbered by writing on the neck/ body. Looks like 043 written on the body. Could very well be an early Charvel Prepro. View attachment 702325
I dig your opinion, I'll be sure to post pics when I get it the way I want it.4 SEP 89, hand written?
The vertical bar in the assumed "4" follows a wood line: ballpoint pen?
Date not written the American way (month first)?
Mahogany body, not walnut.
Someone draw a rectangle between the neck pocket and the split pickup (for another pickup cavity?).
Mushroom strap buttons.
Single piece maple neck and FB.
Brass string retainer. Brass nut.
IMHO, keep it as is. Don't clean or change anything, just remove the logo (or cover it with a cool sticker), this bass is very unique and looks terrific.
And show it to us when re-assembled.
