Carey Nordstrand’s Modern Version of the Goya Panther!

The reverse headstock ruins it for me.
I agree that it's aesthetically not as pleasing, but it is a clever way to obtain something closer to "straight-string-pull" (something 1960s bass designers generally had no clue about!!)

I did the same sort of thing on my latest p-bass build ... I wanted it to have a "1969 Framus 4-inline" headstock but in the end had to create a 'tribute' variation of my own, because there was no way in hell to get straight string pull with the original design (especially using modern machine heads...)

That is one wild bass! Heard his demo of it and it sounded good for having rounds on it, but basses like that really come alive with flats IMHO. Not often tempted, but I'm picturing it in black and I'm thinking I would look darn good with it. If only I had a little more disposable income and didn't have so many other basses I never gig anymore...
I'm surprised, given it has single coils in a similar placement as a 4003 Rick

It's cool, but the real Panther has more kitsch factor. I mean c'mon, look at that guard and janky headstock!

Given my experience with his pickups, I suspect this thing is an absolute beast
One thing I was afraid a guy like Carey would be tempted to do was to go too far in the current direction and make the pickups more like Fenders and less like the originals, but while I don't think he's done tweaking them to his liking, what I heard sounds like he resisted that temptation.

I’m really digging it. If Carey decides to put them in production, I will buy one. I already use his pickups and have always loved the basses and guitars that he has made. This short scale bass is no different.

Nordstrand is currently taking orders for these right now with a $300 deposit and you can choose your color.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one. I love weird, unique basses and would love to have another short scale. Plus the price point of $799 is very reasonable.
