Cases!!! Argh!!! Allow me to vent...

Yeah, a bit frustrating. I got a Gator Transit for my jbass - it's a medium scale bass so I need to move some of the padding around. Not a tight fit but a nice case.

I have a soft case by, I believe, Roadstar. I've had it for seven years. To make a long story short, where one of the feet is attached, metal was protruding into the bass area by the output plug. It really chewed up two of my basses.

What are you looking for? A G&G case for a P or a J? Or a Fender "trombone" plastic case? They fit both Ps and Js. I might have what you are looking for and if you are within 1,500 miles of central Ohio, I doubt if shipping will be $40 or more dollars.

Send me a message.

Dude… I remember Crying walking through the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport some years ago. I had my bass in an Anvil Road Case. They let me gate check it, but when the plane landed, I had to walk from gate 23 to gate 3 towards baggage claim with that beast!! By the time I got to gate 10, I was Done! LOL!!! That heavy beast just knocked and beat my lower calves and ankles to death! I traded/sold it when I got back home and ordered one of those SKB Bass ATA Roto Rolling tube deals.
I had Anvil make my flight case with wheels on one end. It's easy to wheel around even though it is for a 14 lb. Alembic 6 string.

The Jazz G & G are a little wider than the P cases.. In other words, the P bass swims in the jazz case and a jazz won't fit into a P case.
I've put P basses in J cases for years. I also have managed to fit quite a few other non-Fender basses into a J case. I would never say a P "swims" in a J case. I would just avoid any case that has a cutout to match a particular body shape.

Yeah, this issue all really comes down to how much of a "Jazz case" or a "P case" it is:
- Back in the Good Old Days® Fender made one rectangular case that accommodated both models. It didn't fit either instrument particularly well, but at least it wasn't model-specific. Some other manufacturers make a "universal" case that strives to achieve the same model-agnosticism...with varying results.
- And some manufacturers (including Fender) also make model-specific cases, where the contoured instrument cutout follows the offset waist of the Jazz body (or the non-offset waist of the Precision body) such that you can't fit a P into a J case or vice-versa. I learned about those the hard way. :(
